I know I read here that many have overcome their side effects.  I just kept feeling worse and worse - dizzy, nausea, headaches, "loopy" feeling, ringing in my ears, etc.  Much like aspirin-type meds do to me after a while.
So - this is third day without ANY UC medictions.  Just taking my usual and probiotics.  So far - no problems - just feeling better.  No bleeding has returned but of course it is early.
My doc and NP were on vacation Friday to Tuesday so I just decided to stop on my own.  I know they will not be happy but I just couldn't stand it - rather have cramping and "D".
I will call NP on Wednesay and tell her and see what she suggests. She knows I am a stubborn "old" lady with white hair - LOL!!

Do try the steroid foam or liquid enemas or the steroid suppositories. Don't do the 5ASA meds again....you obviously cannot use them.

Do you have any of them at this time?

I agree with Quincy, I've been using the foams now for a few years and they are great.

I tried Asacol this past year, and it gave me the opposit effects. It stirred up my UC more than in the past. Basically it pulled me out of complete remission. Once I stopped the pills, I was fine the next day. Those pills were an addition to other meds I'm taking, once I got off the Asacol I'm back to normal :), have no need for any other pill addition. :)

Thanks everyone!  The only medication I have in the house is Canasa suppositories (left over as they were not helping much).  I also used protofoam for several weeks but the bleeding did not stop.  Doc thought I needed help up further so prescribed the Rowasa enema and lowered dose of Colazal.  Unfortunately (and fortunately) seemed to stop the bleeding but the side effects are too much for me.  Been off all meds since Friday and feeling good but little left-sided discomfort.  NO diarrhea, no blood (that I can see) - other UC symptoms (I assume) are still around - night sweating, nausea, little vertigo but I can handle them so much better.  Have had those symptoms for a couple years without treatment before bleeding started and I had the colonoscopy.  I take 1/2 Xanax every 6 hours - so when I get up in the night (I have to get up to P 4 to 6 times) I take 1/2 Xanax and 1/2 Imodium.
Two doctors thought it was anxiety causing sweating, chills, etc. etc.
I will call my NP on Wednesday when she goes back to work.

Well, here it is the 6th and I feel good except for one problem - vertigo still here - when I lay down or bend way over.  Otherwise, I have little gas depending on what I eat but had that for years with IBS.  I have been "testing" certain foods when I can - today was pizza - see how I feel tomorrow. I have one or two BM's every morning, no blood and teeney, tiny left-sided "awareness" once in a while.

I still have night sweating and very little nausea about 3 to 6 a.m.  Had that way before diagnosis with UC.

I never got call back from NP or doc so I am just waiting until Friday, September 12 when I have appointment to find out what to do next.  I thought about trying Colazal and/or Rowasa again but decided I will wait - apparently they are not for me.

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.

I still suggest asking about hydrocortisone enemas...similar to Cortifoam, but in a liquid form so they will go up as high as the Rowasa did.
Diagnosed with UC March 2007; Asacol 4 tablets 3x/day; Rowasa nightly; Canasa weekly; Viactiv; Metamucil wafers; multivitamin

Thank you Sara.  I am truly concerned about side effects now - I know that steroids can give one a LOT of problems.  But, I will try anything suggested by my doctor.
