Hi everyone,
I posted a few days ago about how my symtoms act up while i'm on my period and I thank all of you for your responses. Here is the difference I'm noticing this time. It usually only lasted 2 or 3 days and then back to normal. This time by day 4 it seemed to be clearing up. The am stool was mushy but I had a pm stool that was completely loose. Today (day 5) the am stool was mushy again and I had an afternoon stool that was loose. Am I just being paranoid? I called my GI this morning and am waiting on a call back. No blood and very slight pain. Any ideas while I wait for the callback?

Thanks

Have you tried bulking up the stool with a fiber supplement? I notice around my period that I eat poorly 'cause I'm craving things. Fiber might help a bit.

Calling your doc is okay. Did he call back? What did he say?

Hi dakotagirl,

Doc didn't call back yet. Figures. I'm new to UC so I'm curious about the fiber issue. This might be a dumb question but isn't fiber supposed to help with constipation?

V - fiber helps keep you "regular". It helps keep the stool bulked up to prevent D and also helps keep the stool from drying out to prevent C. Finding the right balance is the tricky part.

I like Fibercon. I've also used benefiber tablets. I don't like the psyllium husk ones - I had to take too many of the bulky pills to get the same effect; however, many people have had good luck with them. Make sure that the one you choose does NOT have any fake sugars in it - those can cause other problems.

A word of caution - I don't use fiber when I'm bleeding!

But if I'm having a few off days, the fiber usually helps. Some people advocate using it daily. I usually forget to use it daily or get sick of swallowing pills.

It's not super expensive and is usually worth a try :)

Oh - Questions aren't dumb! Most of us had to learn things from someone else or by trial and error. Too bad UC doesn't come with a manual!
