V - fiber helps keep you "regular". It helps keep the stool bulked up to prevent D and also helps keep the stool from drying out to prevent C. Finding the right balance is the tricky part.
I like Fibercon. I've also used benefiber tablets. I don't like the psyllium husk ones - I had to take too many of the bulky pills to get the same effect; however, many people have had good luck with them. Make sure that the one you choose does NOT have any fake sugars in it - those can cause other problems.
A word of caution - I don't use fiber when I'm bleeding!
But if I'm having a few off days, the fiber usually helps. Some people advocate using it daily. I usually forget to use it daily or get sick of swallowing pills.
It's not super expensive and is usually worth a try :)
Oh - Questions aren't dumb! Most of us had to learn things from someone else or by trial and error. Too bad UC doesn't come with a manual!
