One of the serious side effects listed for mesalamine such as Pentasa is change in urine production and colour, even blood. Has anyone ever had such a problem? Is it a kidney issue or just a urinary tract thing? Someone here mentioned a while ago about bladder inflammation coming from use of mesalamine, I thought.

Yep, I had a bladder infection for a year. The Dr.'s wouldn't believe me, they just kept giving me the antibiotics and telling me that I wasn't wiping right after urinating, or they kept accusing me of having back door sex. But gee, the day I stopped taking it the infection went away, that was almost a year ago and still haven't had another one. Even when I brought in a print out of the possible side effects he said that he had never heard of that so it must not be true. Yeah. Good luck!

Wow. So you didn't really have an infection, it was inflammation from the drug? I guess my reduced urine and some blood may be similar - cannot possibly in any way on God's green earth be an infection there. Trust me.

Mitzo, go see your primary and ask for urinalysis tests be done to rule out kidney disease, print out stuff from the internet and bring it with you.

If your urine has lots of bubbles, definitely get it checked out.

I have kidney disease and one of the side effects is edema, one Dr. told me it was my shoes.......MOFO! I hope someone treats him like that someday!

I'm scared. History of kidney failure in the family. If 6 years of Pentasa has hit my kidneys, my doctors are going down with me, I swear.
