I've been dealing with a "flare" for the last few weeks. I'm on Lialda and am taking 2 per day. I was at 4 but it stopped working. After a brief respit from everything, I went back to 2 per day. MY GI asked to try and go back to 3 or 4. After I increased the dosage, my symptoms came back (urgency, mucous, straining, etc).

So, while I've been dealing with this and trying to get settled, I have now started to get terrible cramps. They feel like a bad gas pain but there is no way to relieve them (trust me, I've tried). After 3 calls to my GI, he prescribed Symax. I was wondering if anyone has taken this or any other anti-spasmodic. I need to work tomorrow so I'm hoping this works.

Thanks.

I've taken dicyclomine (spelling?), another antispasmodic, when I was really, really sick. It didn't help me at that time but I was in a very bad way at the time. I think another member, quincy, has posted saying that antispasmodics have helped her. Have you tried the Symax yet? Hope you're feeling better soon.
Diagnosed with UC March 2007; Asacol 4 tablets 3x/day; Rowasa nightly; Canasa weekly; Viactiv; Metamucil wafers; multivitamin

For 2-3 times a day I have cramps and then the urge to go. Then I will see only a little bit of brown/red mucous. I have told my GI doctor about this. She thought I would get better soon after trying Salofalk suppository.
I think I need to ask for an antispasmodic next time I see her.
Ulcerative proctitis diagnosed in July 2006. Medications: Salofalk enema nightly.
