I don't know if probiotics affect your weight. The main idea of taking probiotics is to increase the good bacteria in your gut, which could relieve some of your symptoms since the bad bacteria will be outnumbered. Probiotics are especially important to take when using antibiotics since antibiotics kill good and bad bacteria.

I don't think weight gain or loss is connected to probiotics, it's simply good bacteria that helps replensish and balance the gut won't completely get rid of the bad bacteria, just get balance with taking probiotics which is much better than having too much bad bacteria (bacterial over-growth).

The advantage of taking probiotics is to rebuild healthy, normal gut flora that's killed off by broad spectrum antibiotics, poor diet, and other lifestyle factors. When the normal gut flora aren't present, bad gut bugs are allowed to overgrow, creating all kinds of health problems - leaky gut, food sensitivities and more.

Probiotics aren't meant to help you gain or lose weight, but restoring balance to the gut should normalize your weight. In other words, you would gain if you're underweight and lose if you're overweight.

Here's an article you might find helpful:

Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999.
Maintenance dose sulfasalazine.
Probiotics, l-glutamine and fish oil caps. George's aloe vera juice. Oregano oil antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal. Long-term remission with only minor blips.

Pro biotics can also be found in yoghurt. But be sure the yoghurt does not have any type of sugar in it or artificial sweetner. I buy Nancy's brand because it is all about probiotics.
With colitis or chronh's taking probiotics in the billions is probably going to show more usefulness to you intestine.

Google the SCD diet and see what you think. I just talked to someone who has their daughter on it with colitis for quite some time and she said the benefits are grand.

I start seeing a naturopath next week. I'll share here what Ilearn.

ASACOL 2 3x a day
Pro Biotics
yoghurt no sugar!
all organic-no pesticides

no wheat, gluten, no red meat, no sugar
30 years living with colitis
