Hi everybody.... I'm still here, but flaring steadily now... I guess all the stress of moving out, arguing with hubby one day and his being nice to me the next is more than I can handle... I have been bleeding off and on for the last month or so but now it's constant and I'm getting cramps, nausea, chills... argh!!

Also, this is going to be gross..... Is it possible to get U/C ulcers around the anus on the outside?? I have sores that are popping up on the outside and MAN do they hurt and bleed.... I'm wondering if this is something I'm going to have to show my dr... (DREADING THAT) or if it is something the asacol suppositories might help... Or even stepping up to oral Asacol.....

Other than that, I'm doing ok..  I found out that I can stay here at my new place long term if need be, which was a big load off, but I'm still feeling out of sorts and have to work the next 6 days in a row.. It kills me that I cannot even ride my horse right now with these darn sores......

No remission no more.. lol.. Flaring now for 3 weeks. Blood and mucus and cramps.. argh!!! Meds are Rowasa, Canasa and Culturelle 1x a day, plus an occasional Xanax if I feel stressed out....

No sussie it's not possible to get UC ulcers/sores on the outside of your anus...if it's infact true UC you have then the sores on the outside of your anus would likely be either/or hemerroides/fissures...I strongly urge you to see your doc ASAP, with all that's going on you don't need this to get out of control on you...remember, it's ALWAYS best to report new things like this to your GI immediately...refrain from horseback riding until you know what you're dealing with (and probably until you've healed from what ever it is).

Hi Susie...I'm happy to hear you're in a safe place with people who support you....

Sores on the outside wouldn't be UC related I don't think..external hemmies don't bleed apparently, but could it be internal hemmies extended out from the anus?

Could you also have a fissure or two plus external hemmies?

Are you sure the bleeding is coming from the outside?

Are you using the Rowasa at this time? If you use the Canasa in the morning and the Rowasa at night, it will help your flare. Externally, however, products such as Proctocedyl work well and in conjunction with the UC rectal meds, it should ease some of the symptoms until you get the flare under control.

Once the external hemmies start...yeowch!!!

If it's any consolation, my external hemmies have "reared" as of a week ago (but I just started using the protocedyl yesterday) and excess gas that is definitely causing pressure on them quite noticably today. It's been a tough month for me more physically (and in turn emotionally) and I'm hoping (although suspecting otherwise) that these aren't the beginning of a flare for me.

I would still suggest you see the doc for a look-see. I might just be following suit if things don't improve over the week.

Keep us updated as to what's going on.

I'lll book an appointment on Monday to see my GI... I am hoping its just hemmies, but these feel different. I don't know... Stress can do many weird things to the body and God knows, I'm going through a lot of that right now. I have a big hay delivery today (100 bales) and have to not only deliver it, but stack it up in the barn... At least I have a couple of friends who are going to help me with that. The hard work helps, but it tuckers me out more quckly when I'm flaring....

Occasional Xanax sure can help.  I have to take it all the time - night and day to stay calm enough to function - BUT, I only take  1/2 dose every 6 hours - never more.  Keeps a steady control over emotions, etc.  I am older and don't work but have stress with husband's health, etc.

Seems like you should see/confer with your doctor soon.

Elaine, I agree with you that Xanax can help (I'm on clonazepam myself), but your body can become habituated very quickly to it and it can be hard to taper off from it. Unfortunately I know this from past experience. But you do what you have to do... Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents for Susie.

And Susie, I hope things will resolve for you quickly.

Quincy, sorry to hear this has been a rough month for you. With your wisdom, I know you'll be able to do what your body needs.

All my best to all three of you,

So true - good point Emory!  I forget I am 68 and don't really care if I get addicted to the Xanax but also I am old enough to know better than increase the doseage and deal with any "extra" anxiety other ways - like the computer, tv. relaxing music, etc.  I have been taking the same small doseage for about 3 years, I guess - when I tried a couple times to take a little more (when husband has chemo) it just made me very edgy and woozy so I know I can't take more.
