Hi all, I just had a colonoscopy and the Gastr. said that part of my colon is only 10mm in diameter!
That is the size of a writing pen. I've had colitis a long time.
but I'm not very sick. NO diahreaha, no blood. I'm in pain now with cramping only after the colonoscopy.
So I don't want my colon out. There was no cancer as far as he could see.

I decided to try the SCD diet and am doing a lot of jucing. I want to give my colon a rest since it is s shrunk there.

Just wondering if anyone has ever heard this happen and if
there is any known way to renew the colon back to normal circumfrence?

the diet is too new to me to know yet if it will help. I can only hope

Asacol 2-3x a day

Lglutamine -3,000 mg
Probiotics
no wheat, no gluten, no dairy as of 3 days ago

I am still new to all of this - what is the SCD diet? Is your juicing making you feel better? If so what do you use w/ your juicing?

Will be interesting to find out - I may just try it.

I've heard of it happening on Anti-MAP therapy for Crohns, but it takes a long time (2+ years). I don't know what the situation is with UC, since this therapy is not indicated in those cases, but at least it proves that it's possible.

I have been having "pencil stools" for over a year and have a lot of pain with a bm even when I am not flaring.  My GI says I have "lead pipe syndrome" which he describes as "your colon looses its own natural folds and creases from continuous scarring over the years."  This in turn leads to the pencil stools and pain with bms.  He didn't tell me anything about the diameter of my colon when I had my last scope but I have tried multiple remedies for the pencil stools at his insistence and nothing has worked - - they are still about the diameter of a pencil.  I just generally feel very swollen/bloated in my lower abdomen.  I am about to take the big plunge to surgery since I have abdominal pain every single day & my quality of life is seriously effected.

Dx UC 1979 at age 14 - (I know, some kind of record)
Was Mildly Chronic (flares every couple of years) until last 2 years now Chronically Acute
Can only get about a month symptom free between flares now
Asacol, Canasa, Rowasa, Cortifoam (on Sulfasalazine for 28 years previously also Pred)
GI Doc recently told me I have "lead pipe syndrome" which is advanced scarring of colon
No surgery - multiple colonoscopies reveal uc "from rectum to appendix"
My Best Friend is My Shih Tzu/My worst enemy is uc
