Good morning =]
I hope you all slept better than I did. I woke up at least 4 times during the night to potty..fun fun.
I recently got a yucky sinus infection. The symptoms started yesterday in the a.m. and then as the day progressed it got worse and this a.m. when I woke up, I couldn't breathe outta my nose and CANNOT stop sneezing..Someone told me I had to get antibiotics to get rid of it but last time I took an antibiotic it made me flare so Im really scared about going to the doctor about it. Any suggestions of how I can feel better fast..i have school tomorrow =[

Typically if you have to be on an antibiotic, Uc'ers should avoid any of the 'cillians and 'cyclines because it can increase the chances of flares and/or Cdiff. But if you have to be placed on an antibiotic, a probiotic should be taken to replace the good bacteria in your intestine. A probiotic should be used anyway but with antibiotics, they kill not only the bad in your system but the good as well. Personally to me, this sounds like your average cold though unless you are blowing out yellow/green snot and/or have intense sinus pain?

It sounds like a cold to me too, unless you have the additional symptoms that Red listed. If you do have to go on an antibiotic, the Z-pack (Zithromax) worked well for me last year with no side effects. Hope you feel better soon. Colds and sinus infections suck.

Check with doctor first - if you have a lot of sinus pressure and sore face may be infection.  You don't want to take antibiotics anytime (even with no UC) unless necessary.  Z-pack helped me last year with no problems also.  Elaine

Please don't go to the ER until you try some OTC cold medicine first! With those symptoms, you would probably be left sitting in the ER for hours and hours as a non-emergency and it would be stupid expensive in the end. You would do better to just rest a lot at home today. Try some steam, too. Antibiotics won't help a cold, and you should avoid them unless you know you have an infection. Depending on where you are, you might just have hayfever or allergies. It's really, really bad in the midwest right now and your symptoms are typical.

Chronic sinusitis has been found to be caused by fungus, not bacteria. Antibiotics probably won't help. Perhaps try a natural saline spray?- or an antifungal

I am a UC Mom, and don't have it myself, however I ALWAYS take a probiotic with an antibiotic, and it helps so much. I don't see a probiotic listed in your signature line, so you may want to add one, especially IF you get an antibiotic. The Vitamin Shoppe Brand works for me, but my son takes Culturelle daily for his UC. My son is a senior also. I hope you both have a great year!!!
