Dear All,
I had a colonoscopy a month and a half ago and I was told I had a mild inflammation, possibly a mild flare. However, I never recovered from the colonoscopy itself. I'd have very frequent and high levels of gas which is painful. I'd have bowel movements 2-3 times a day where the stool in the morning would be watery and that at night would be very hard (two extremes). I'm on Rowasa 1x and asacol. The doctor first prescribed me powerful anti-gas and then anti-diarrheal a week later (i haven't taken this). But things haven't improved. I still have painful gas and in the mornings I have a huge semi-solid bowel movement. Since I wasn't doing this badly until immediately after the colonoscopy, I suspect that was it and it seems to have irritated the colon somehow. It's making me very tired, as I seem to be losing everything inside. Any ideas.
My very best to you all!

why haven't you taken the anti gas or diarrheal?

I had a colonoscopy a month ago. I am fighting this morning to get to work with how extreme my fatigue is and the painful bms i've just started to have again. They're semi formed, but i'm cramping and there's SO much coming out of me... I don't even know. And training for a new job is making it worse. The stress is killing me!!

Ya i got an idea...its not tht you didnt recover from the colonoscopy, but more that your UC symptoms are getting worse?? Sounds like your treatment for your "mild flare" isnt helping. There isnt much to recovering from a colonoscopy...pass gas, stand up they let you go home. They could put a hole in your intestine during the procedure, but that would be serious and caught at the time, other than that its air pumped in and mechanical scope...not much stuff there to leave lingering after effects for weeks let alone months. Sound slike you need somehting stronger than your current with your GI.

I had a c-scope last Wednesday and since then it seems like my whole insides have turned against me. The Miralax/Ducolax prep affected me worse than any other prep ever did before. After doing the prep, I was up all night with constant watery/bloody bms, gas cramps, and extremely painful colon spasms. I think I might have even pulled a muscle in my lower back due to the spasms. These symptoms continued the day of the scope, into the next day. After that, my bms were loose, mucousy, and bloody, and fairly often, to go along with the total exhaustion that has gotten worse since the scope. Everything I eat seems to cause me great pain. After suffering the weekend, which I had to work, I finally called my doc this morning, because I am now open to idea of taking prednisone (pills or enema), something I swore I'd avoid at all costs after my last round on them. One thing that did provide some comfort was increasing my intake of VSL#3. I was taking 1 capsule 3x day, but I went up to 2 capsules 3x day. Seems like the good bacteria have helped calm things down, but VSL#3 is so expensive that I can't possibly keep taking 6 a day! Plus if I don't take them like clockwork, the rebound is horrible. I was tired enough to sleep 14 hours last night, and my first hour after waking today was spent near tears in the bathroom. After getting my morning meds in me, things have clamed down again. I'm not keen on it, but if I have to wake up to make sure I get the probiotics every 8 hours, I guess that is what'll happen for now. I wonder if the c-scope prep cleaned out all my good gut bacteria, and the bad ones stuck around and flourished? Hopefully the doc and I can get this under control soon. I can handle working weekends and nights when things are mellow and I can nap when needed. But weekdays when we have a full a crew and the big bosses are present will be a problem if I end up dozing off, or worse if I get involved in some big project and I have to duck out every hour to poop, or have an accident!
