My D today was black and tarry looking w/ bright red blood, I started Asacol last Monday 6 pills a day could this be the reason?  First time the D has been black like that - kind of scarey.
Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Are you taking prednisone at the moment as well? I know pred can cause black tarry stools, so can high up bleeding but that's usually involoved with crohn's not UC....better call your doc about this ASAP.

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)

Just keep an eye on it for now. I had that once too and told my GI. I only had it for about 3 days and he said that it could be old blood. If it continues definately contact your doc.

I had something like that, too, Gigi. It lasted about 3 days, and then I didn't bleed at all for a few days. I also was told that it was old blood, and that it was a good sign. It is very creepy looking, but I hope it will indeed be a sign that you're healing!
