i had my colonoscopy last thursday and i have been left confused. i have had all the symptoms of uc for around 2 months, although they have subsided massively the last two weeks. i was booked for a colonoscopy which i went for, however the doc said he couldn't see any signs of uc? he took three biopsys which i have to wait 6 weeks for the results.
can anyone help? is it possible that my uc had subsided and therefore was not visible, or is it allways there once you have it? is the biops a full drawn conclusion or are there other tests that can be carried out? i have been really suffering from all the symptoms for two months so in a way i was hoping for just a straight forward "yes you have uc", and then starting some meds to help my every day life to get better, but now i have to wait yet another 2 months for results. could it be that there is something more higher up than my colon and large intestine?
help confused

It's probably not UC so count yourself lucky. It might IBS.

Diagnosis Oct 07 and then Aug 08: Inditerminate Patches of Mild Colitis (including Rectum) - Currently Minor Bleeding
Medication: 1000mg Mesalazine Suppository at night.

Have you had your stool tested for parasites? If not, you might want to have that done. What exactly are your symptoms?

Hi -- in fall of 2004, I had a situation similar to yours -- blood and mucous in my stool for a couple of months, but by the time I finally got in for a colonoscopy, I'd been symptom-free for a couple of weeks and my colon looked absolutely fine. I had mild symptoms now and then over the past four years, then this May a flare began. This time i got in during the flare, and was diagnosed. (And am still flaring...) My doctor suggested that it is possible for things to clear up completely like that.

I don't know if there could be something higher up than your colon, though I'd think your doctors would have considered that based on symptoms. ???

I would keep a close eye on symptoms and be persistent with your doctors if anything recurs. Hope you continue to feel better.

hi emory.

yeah i think it took way too long for the appointment to come through so it was inevitable that it would clear up. it did go on since may. english hospital systems are crap so everything takes ages. i think next time i will go straight to a and e (er).

I've had UC for ten years.  I don't have swollen joints though.  However, I suppose it could be a complication of UC. Were you given any blood tests to rule out other diseases?
I also had a colonoscopy performed while in remission and the doctor said the colon looked perfect!!!  No polyps either.  That was about three years ago though.  I get flares now every year or so and my last colonoscopy (May 2008) showed mild to moderate ulcerative proctitis.  This is a crappy disease, no pun intended.
