Hello, I say a gyno today and she rxed progesterone for me to take for 10 days. She did this because for some reason or another (UC, meds, low body weight, who knows?) I have not gotten my period for over 7 months.
Has anyone else been prescribed hormones? Or know if it affects UC at all, because i dont want to take it if its going to make my UC act up even worse than it already is...
thanks!
Winni, 25

medications: colazal 9 daily,
5 mg pred,and tapering. 75 mg 6 mp

Hi Winni! WOW...seems we are in the same boat!

I have UC, i weigh about 98lbs. However, i have always weighed this even before my UC. I have had gyn issues all my life. I see that you are only 25...is this common for you? Most of the time doctors should run a set of labs to see if it is thyroid related, or some other issue that can be dx by blood....If it is anovulation (not ovulating) then this needs to be addressed also since you are so young.

For me, i have had all the labs many times. I have charted my ovultion, and we KNOW that it is ovulation related. Im currently working on 3 1/2 months w/ no period. My gyn did just give me progestrone x 10 days to try to induce the period. We'll see...I have used progestrone many times for this specific reason and also used it in early pregnancy both times to sustain my pregnancies. I also took a shot once a week during the pregnancy for 20 weeks to help prevent pretem labor/birth as i had a history of that.

I have never had a problem with taking it w/ my UC . Progestrone is made by our bodies.

Anyways, i really hope that you seek the answer as to why you have not had a period in 7 months. If they can rule out EVERYTHING, then they can blame it on your low body weight. But if you plan on ever having children, this problem could become a MAJOR problem when u start trying. I suffered 3 yrs infertility due to non ovulation and some other gyn related issues. So, please seek the answer!

ps, my gyn said that prednisone can cause a period to go missing...u may check into this to.
good luck!
