I flared for a year or so before I got into remission and during that whole time I never had any blood. I have some mucus and ton of cramping and even more d. My GI never really seemed concerned with no blood so I never really thought much of it.

Bleeding is what got me to the gastro doctor.  I have been dealing with IBS for about 25 to 30 years but never any blood.  I had lots of D which I controlled with diet and Imodium plus pepto for nausea.  Had two signoidoscopy exams over the years and still told it was only IBS.  Now gastro doc says probably had UC for longer time - who knows?
