Hi guys,I am in desperate need of advice, I was diagnosed with Proctitis in Sept 2006 and have had 2 major flares since then although constantly struggling with daily symptoms.  During my 2nd flare in Jan/Feb this yr my consultant changed meds from mesalazine to balsalazide and these have worked alot better until now. On tues/wed i basically spent 2 days in bathroom passing alot of stool, blood and mucus. On Wed evening I developed a gripey stomach ache just under my belly button which kept me awake all night as it was constantly growling and very loud and painful. Yesterday I woke up with the tell tale flu/tired symptoms and felt generally unwell. Today I have had 6 bouts of 'd' and its only 9.30 am!!,  no blood yet but I am passing a bright yellow runny mucus with the 'd'. I have never experienced this before and wondered if it is a build up of the balsalazide as these capsules are made of a bright yellow powder, if this is the case then why is the balsalazide not being absorbed into my body? I have upped my dose of Balsalazide to 3 x 3 a day (at docs recommendation)and am using 1 x mesalazine rectal med and 1 x predsol rectal supp per day at the moment although these seem to be coming out as soon as they go in!!! Im not in any rectal pain as yet but this stomach ache is driving me mad and hurts soooo much, why am I getting stomach ache if I have Proctitis (14cm) or is it possible the disease has moved/spread? I have been noticing more stomach aches and gripes in the last 6 months but I put this down to time of month and IUD but now im not so sure. Please can someone advice me I feel really out of my depth here as symptoms seem to be so different this time.
Thanks

If I was you I would call your doc. It sounds like the pain can be gall bladder related. Any new symptoms should always be reported to your doc ASAP.

Have you had any tests done?  I believe you should have a CT scan to see if the inflamation has spread up into your colon.

It sounds like you need some new tests done to see what's causing these new symptoms. My UC spread from 10cm to the whole bowel, so it can happen. I also thought I was having a major flare-up last year, and it turned out to be my gall-bladder which had ruptured, so don't take it for granted that your symptoms are UC related. I also got food poisoning a few months ago (i know, i've not been too lucky!!) and thought it was the UC so started taking steroids. When they didn't work I had a stool sample tested and they found the bacteria which needed antibiotics. Get to your doc when you can and get some tests done, it's the only way you'll find out what's wrong.

I agree with the other members' suggestions. Do inform the doctor asap about your new symptoms.

Did you just start the rectal meds?

Cut out the echinacea (increases the immune system response), fish oil and aloevera tabs for now...

You could add a fibre supplement to help bulk up the stool a bit as well as ask the doctor for an antispasmodic (I use dicyclomine).

Keep us posted as to how you're doing.
