I would like to start a discussion concerning the relationship between diverticulitis and UC.  Has anyone here that has UC ever had an abdominal ultrasound or CT scan?  Does anyone here have diverticulitis as well or in addition to UC?
I am in remission for UC but due for a GI visit soon (late Oct) and I don't recall ever having any of the aforementioned tests since my diagnosis. Could mild diverticulitis contribute to colitis and vice versa depending on the amount of swelling, inflammation, and possible bacterial imbalance be involved? The two diseases share the same symptoms and physiology acting mostly, but not limited to, the descending colon and below.
Could the "scope" used in diagnosing UC actually be observing a stretch of spreading diverticulitis infection switching on the immune response? Could some diverticulitis diagnoses' conditions actually be UC?  The highly debated link between diet and UC could very well be resting in the answers of some of these questions.
Anyone else thought about this before?

I had a CT scan when admitted to the hospital in May.  It showed inflamation throughout the colon.  I went in because my UC was flaring and my blood pressure was up to 216/96.  The colonoscopy results were ulcerative proctitis and diverticulosis.  Don't know of any correlation between the two.  My GI doctor said at my age (62), he would be surprised to NOT see diverticulosis (not to be confused with diverticulitis).
