Hello, new to this site.

In April of 2007 I was diagnosed with UC.  After numerous drugs and steriods I had a toxic mega colon by July.  July 21st I had my colon, large intestine, and appendex removed.

In Oct of 2007 I had the take down surgery.  Everything went surprisingly very well.

I am 29 years old now.

The only meds I take are a multivitamin and an acid reducer.

The only problems I have now is a little gas pain now and then, but I have had a lot of infections.

Shingles (that was a close one, but caught it in time)
Strep Throat (twice)
Sinus Infections (on my second one this week)
Flu

Let's just say it has been a bad year, but it's getting better.

I have a couple of questions: (I am not all that confident in doctors right now)

1. Sometimes I have control issues.  Normally, how long does it take for you to regain most of it back?
2. With all the infections I have been getting, is there something else I should be doing.  I took B12 shots and that didn't do anything.

Thank you for your help.

Welcome to HealingWell, igorsowner (just curious, who is Igor?)

We're happy to have you here, however be aware that most of us still have UC because we have our colons. While we do have a few j-pouchers who visit us, you may get more information at the HealingWell ostomy board or at this site:

Those two sites will have more posters who, like you, no longer have UC because they've had a colectomy and a pouch.
