I went to a new doctor today. He is into traditional medicine and naturopathy. He suggested that I try DHEA. I looked up a ton of articles and it seems inconclusive.

What do you guys think?

I currently see a naturopathic doc and he has me taking DHEA in cream form. I have been on it since about June. I havent necessarily felt anything different since taking it and my levels have only come up a little since starting it. There has been a recent increase in the dosage since the doctor didnt see a huge increase in my levels, so I guess we are just waiting to see what it can do for me. I was already feeling good before I started it, so its hard to say if there has been any benefits. I agree with your hesitation b/c of the research, but I figured it was worth a try and if didnt hurt me, why not? All I know is that with my medication (remicade),my hormonal system is effected, so I was hoping it would be beneficial to my overall health while I was taking the treatments. I would definitely recommend you get your DHEA levels tested prior to starting the drugs. Mine were low and even though it has come up into normal limits....it is still at the lowest of normal limits. Sorry I wasnt able to provide anymore "benefical" advice, but I just wanted to let you know that some natural docs do suggest it.

I went to see a naturopath and he recommended some DHEA and Pregnenolone.

Has anyone heard of these?  Taken them?  Any comments?

I talked to my GI about them and he didn't seem impressed...I don't know what to do!

Alot of GIs do not believe in "natural" medicine. The one thing you need to remember that it is your health and you need to do what you think is best for your body. If you dont try something, how are you going to know if it works for you? My DHEA was tested by my naturopath and he told me my levels were low for my age. I did experiment with DHEA cream. My levels have come up slightly, but I havent really seen much change in my overall condition. Not sure what benefits to look for, but I did start having some other hormone related responses that I didnt like, so I have decreased the amount of DHEA cream. I have never heard of pregnenolone though.
