Hi Guys,
I posted in mid September asking for advice on new symptoms, I took your advice and saw my consultant who did a sigoidoscopy which found that the disease has spread a lot further along the colon, not sure how far yet but most pain is around belly button and under right rib so I'm assuming along there. I am currently tapering pred from 30mg and taking 9 x colazide per day as well as 2 x predfoam enemas. He wants to do a colonoscopy on 22nd Oct as he wanted to wait for the inflamation to subside as it looked raw in there!    From your experiences will there still be active disease to see after 4 weeks on max dose meds? The diarrhoea has now stopped but I am just so tired all the time. I seem be ok for a couple of hours in the morning and then muzzy headed/ spun out for the best part of the day. My doc gave me a sick note for 4 weeks and I was sure I wouldn't need it as I didn't feel too bad at the time but im now on week 3 sick from work and I feel like a fraudster as I can walk around pain free and im not bleeding anymore but Im so spun out that I can't focus on anything... is this the nature of the disease or are the meds to blame?

If you are on meds and those meds heal the colon, residual inflammation/ulceration can show up on the colonoscopy especially if your doc takes biospies. But if he doesn't see anything, then that is a good thing too! :) It just means that you are healing right.

How long have you been on the Colazide? If it hasn't been too long, the unfocused feeling can be from that. I know when I started on Colazal, I felt so out of it for quite a while. But eventually my body got used to the medication and that went away.

I have been on Colazide since my last flare in Jan 08 but they've always seemed to agree with me. Previously I was on Pentasa and they were ok. The only one which was awful was Sulphalazine and that made me nauseous. I'm thinking steroid side effects?   maybe?... cos one day im hyper and the next im flat on my back, I can't arrange to do anything and I cant seem to concentrate or hold a thought...its wierd and frustrating

Were you feeling any of the tiredness/spun out feeling prior to starting your meds?  If not, then I'd guess it is a side-effect, but I'm not familiar with any of the meds you are taking.  When I've taken prednisione (like I am now) I am easily agitated, can't sleep more than 3 or 4 hours at a time, and do get a little spacey.  Have you changed your diet at all lately?  Another thing I've noticed is that when I go a few days without much refined sugar in my diet, I get spacey as well.  It comes and goes, but it is like I get a little dizzy for a while, then I'm fine, then I'm spacey again.  I hope you can find the cause of this for you soon.  This disease is so frustrating and hard to manage as it is.  Throw in some weird mood swings and it gets really annoying.
