It seems like a lot of people have been diagnosed in this season. I am just curious how many people got their diagnosis in the fall. What month did you?

My 17 year old son - 1st week in July 2002 - in hind sight he had it for at least 2 years prior and has flared every single summer since except this past summer, but did start a flare this past weekend.

My 9 year old daughter - 1st week in August 2007. Remission since dx, but in hind sight, I would say she had mini flares around Christmas for several years before dx. I actually took her to the doctor for blood in her stool in July 1999 when she was just 5 months old.

Very interesting question.  I have wondered about a seasonal/allergy trigger for my UC.

My first flare started in August, but I wasn't diagnosed until October because I was in total denial and didn't make an appt for about six weeks. Also I seem to get worse in the fall and winter.

edit to add:  I forgot to mention that the very first symptoms which I experienced 25 years ago before they disappeared began in September.
UC diagnosed 10/05, first symptoms 1983
asacol 12/daily and rowasa as needed
Trying out Culturelle Probiotic
past rx: colozal, lialda, canasa
i can't complain, but sometimes i still do.  lifes been good to me so far.  -joe walsh

Asacol- 8 tabs/day
Remicade-10mgs/kg- since 4/07
Imuran- 150mgs/day

I started having symptoms in late June; by late August it was bad enough to see my primary care doctor. She actually gave me the preliminary diagnosis in late September, but my colonoscopy and official bad news was in late October.

Symtoms first appeared early Sept of 1998.  Rapidly worsened and was hospitalized Oct 10th thru 16th of that year.  Colonoscopy clinched the diagnosis of UC.  Remission for two years, flare in fall of 2000 which lasted almost two months.  Remission for another few years, now suffer flares every year either in spring or fall.  This last one is stubborn though.  Symptoms started in early April, hospitalized ten days in May and can't seem to stay off the prednisone without flaring.  Doctor increased my 6MP to 75 mgm.  See if this works.
62 yr old granny. South Jersey
Diagnosed with ulcerative proctitis in 1998 in hospital
Hospitalized (2nd time) in May 2008
Still flaring.   Afraid that I am pred dependant.  Back on Pred 40 mgm for five days, then taper.  Other meds...Colazal, 6MP, Nexium, Cort enemas, Canasa suppository, Benicar, Toprol xl, water pill.
Calcium, Probiotic, Flaxseed oil capsule, multivitamin with Iron
Also have osteoporosis and high blood pressure
Remicade NOT an option. Not a candidate for surgery yet..says surgeon.

I do not have a LOT of bleeding - but more than I want for sure.  My doctor and NP keep telling me not to worry so much about the bleeding but it is very hard not to.  I guess you can have a lot of UC without much bleeding and the other way around.  It is the area of ulceration and the other symptoms all together.

I was diagnosed late winter/early spring and was back in the ER a year later, almost to the very day. But for people who tend to flare in spring and fall, there's a theory that it's linked to allergies.
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999.

Maintenance dose sulfasalazine.

My son started having symptons in August 2006, and was finally diagnosed in October.  Asacol kicked in in January.  October 2007, Asacol quit working, and symptoms came back.  October 2008, fingers crossed that 6mp will continue it's magic.  So far, so good......

It's always fall for me . . . stress is my big trigger and October/November seem to always be the key months. Some year I'd like to make it through Christmas without a flare & taking prednisone. :)
