It seems like so many drugs have effects on liver or kidney functions. I was looking up info on Remicade and Asacol to research this but some of the info in reference to the liver/kidneys is vague. Should I be getting my liver/kidney fuction tested from time to time? I have a GI appt on next week and will ask him also.

The purpose of the liver and kidneys is to remove waste and toxins from our body. Almost anything you ingest can affect them, and a lot of medications do so at times. Even tylenol can cause liver failure under the right conditions.
Moderate to severe left-sided UC (21 cm) diagnosed 2001.
Avascular necrosis in both shoulders is my "forever" gift from Entocort.
Colazal,  Remicade, Nature's Way Primadophilus Reuteri. In remission since April, 2006.

Same here . . . my gastro guy checks my kidney function every time he does blood work on me.
Diagnosed January 07 - but realize I've been living with minor flare-ups for 10+ years.
Asacol 2 pills/3 times a day.
Flaring and back on Prednisone.  Big sigh . . . . . .

vinny...absolutely have kidney and liver enzymes checked periodically when on meds that will affect them.

As well, just the fact of having UC can cause autoimmune dysfunction of liver or kidneys.

Get a copy of your results any time you have them...

I would think that when on immunosuppressants or biologics, one would require
the tests for sure every 3 months...would have to check it out.

I do have UC related liver disease and get the liver and kidney enzyme tests every 6 months.

*Heather* Status..Asacol 6 (3 twice daily); enemas every 4th night
~diagnosed January 1989 UC (proctosigmoiditis)
~Bentylol (dicyclomine) 20mg as needed
~Probiotic 4(Natural Factors Protec) bedtime + Primadophilus Reuteri Pearls occasionally
~multi-digestive enzymes as needed
~Ranitidine,Pariet (reflux);  Effexor XR 75mg(depression);  Pulmicort/Airomir (asthma)
~URSO for PSC (or PBC) 500mg X 2 daily (LFTs back to NORMAL!!)
My doc's logic.. "TREAT (FROM)BOTH ENDS"  worth it !!!
