I have been using Entocort enema nightly for 10 days and have seen great results. No more cramps, no blood, 3-4 formed BM a day.
My doctor asked me to use it for 4 weeks. I just wonder if I can start tapering by using it and Salofalk enema on alternate nights. It's because Salofalk enema is much easier to administer.
Any ideas, please?
Ulcerative proctitis diagnosed in July 2006. Medications: Salofalk enema nightly.
Remission from Nov 2006 to Oct 2007. Then a bad cold and a bad flare till the present.
Pancolitis diagnosed in April 2008. Current medications: Salofalk enema/suppository, Salofalk tablets 500mg x 2/day, Entocort enema. Warfarin for my Deep Vein Thrombosis which resulted from diarrheas and dehydration in Feb 2008.
Supplements: Probiotics, Calcium with Vitamin D, Vitamin B Complex, Vitamin C, psyllium capsule (Metamucil) and bee propolis.

AWESOME to hear they're working.

How long have you had no blood?

I'd probably do a full 2 weeks then taper to every second night.
Trying the Salofalk alternate nights is a good idea to get you back to them.

Are you doing anything during the day?

I didn't see thick blood anymore 8 days ago after using Entocort enema for 4 nights. Sometimes I see a little 'pink' on the tissue paper after a BM. I think it's because of the hemmies. I have 3 internal hemmies, my colorectal surgeon said. He will deal with them when I'm off Warfarin, the anticoagulant for my DVT.

I don't use any rectal med during the day. I'm taking only 1 g of Salofalk tablets twice a day now.
I had been taking Azathioprine for 3 months but my GI doctor asked me to stop it 3 weeks ago because of my blood work. I told her I didn't want to take it again. She said okay and I felt even better after stopping it. It didn't seem to help all along.
The only med I'm using now are Salofalk tablets and Entocort enema.
Wishful thinking: I'm heading for a remission. tongue

Absolutely! You're developing a plan and that's what you need to see you through future flares and maintenance.

It all takes time, trial and error to get to the success.

You could try the alternating tapering...and if you regress a touch, go back quickly to the nightly steroid enema for another week annd try it again.

I just started using the Metamucil Smooth Orange (not the sugar-free) again...only once a day after supper. It's been great for me...considering you have hemmies, it might be just what you need to add a little "slip" to the exit of your poos...lol!

Keep us posted.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm taking 2 Metamucil capsules morning and night now. I have just 1 BM today. I'm feeling better and better.
I think Metamucil capsules and the Entocort enema deserve most of the credit, though Prednisone did save my life.
This flare, which has lasted for almost 12 months, is my first flare since I was dx in July 2006. I think I've suffered enough and learnt how to deal with it in the future.
Thank you everybody for giving me advice in the past couple of months.
I wish every one of you is getting better soon.

Happy Thanksgiving!
