I have noticed many of you taking VSL #3. What does it help? and how do u get it?
Does it help decrease number of bowel movements. I have UC (pancolitis) dealing with lots of
BM's especially after eating but without blood.
Do u need a prescription for it?  Is it found in any drug store or do u need to order it online?
i have heard once that the the fluid form should be kept refrigerated? Is that true?
Dx UC in 2003
I am currently on Humira waiting for it to kick in.
I am not responding to ASACOL anymore and Pentasa is causing me more BMs and cramps (Is that normal?)
Cannot take Immuran (caused me pancreatitis)
Any other recommendations?

Research shows that VSL#3 probiotic upregulates intestinal mucosal alkaline sphingomyelinase and reduces inflammation.

It's quite expensive, you could talk to your doc about how to get it.

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)

Oh, the mystery of what do probiotics like VSL do?  The best way I've had it explained is in the video that we posted on our blog. It is a good little video that isn't real long and rather informative.

VSL#3 helps overall digestion and establishing good bacteria in your gut. It is rather costly anywhere from 70-85 dollors for a 30pck a freeze dried packets.
No you dont need an x-script for it. You can order it online or go down to your local pharmacy and have them order it for you (most likely they wont have it on stock).
And both the liquid and freeze dried packets need to be refridgeerated at all times, the stuff is even shipped cold so the bacteria dont die off so quickly.
