Had my 2nd c-scope today (first was 2 1/2 yrs ago when I was dx'd). I woke up during the procedure and it looked pretty bad, but when I was fully awake my GI told me I just saw the only bad part. Apparently my colon is 95% healthy, and the very end, the rectum, has bad ulcerations, he said on a scale of 1-10, 10 being really bad, he'd give me a 7. He wants me to start back on the Rowasa enemas. I had trouble keeping them in last time, so he also gave me a prescription for Canasa suppositories, but he said the enemas would be more effective, if I could tolerate them.

Since I have had quite enough action back there, what with last night prepping for the scope and then the scope ... I;ll start the darn things tomorrow night.

We're going to have a follow-up talk on the 23rd though cuz I want to know why I am still feeling bad most mornings and sometimes through the day, and still not having a lot of energy. Been trying to get back to the gym since it's been almost 6 months since I got off the Prednisone, but I still can't make it through a decent workout.

But, it's good news about most of my colon, which I was ready to tear out with my bare hands recently.

That is good news! The lowest part is most easy to get meds to (but the most annoying).

What does arthritis in your lower back feel like? My back pain is getting very stubborn, and I wonder...
(I'm leaning back on an ice pack right now, and took an oxycodone this morning after an uncomfortable night)
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering.
Asacol/5ASA 6x400 mg maintenance for 20+ years; use prednisone & Rowasa for flares.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed gluten, other intolerances; started diet without gluten, soy, dairy, tomato etc. Replete probiotic first, now Forte pills.
Achieved remission for the first time in many, many years!? Seemed so, but colonoscopy Oct. 6 proved not so, heavy inflammation in ascending colon & will be using Rowasa again. But I AM better.

Peety, the arthritis mostly manifests itself when I am sitting for any period of time. It hurts when I sit, but even more when I am standing back up. I got a "tush cush" for when I know I'll have to be sitting on hard seats, but I hate dragging it around with me. Luckily I don't have a desk job.

Brava, Meesh! That's terrific news about most of your colon looking good. Sorry you're bothered by proctitis; for sure, the c-scope & prep irritated it more. Good luck with the rectal meds-- it takes a while for the 5-ASAs to work so don't get discouraged if you have to stay on them for a couple months to get real improvement. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC; currently on 3 (generic) Colazal daily for maintenance of remission)

Meesh - glad to hear things were better than you expected. I hope those lousy rectal ulcers heal up fast. Let us know what doc says about why you feel crudy so often. (I'd like to know!) Best of luck with the Rowasa :)

glad to hear you are 95%, but sorry to hear about the proctitis, I know how much of a pain that can be.

what's keeping you from the gym mostly, is it the proctitis or pain leftover from the pred? I ask b/c I have a lot of joint pain.
Beth, 33 ~ hoping to taper pred successfully, wish me luck!
