Going for a 16 month check...been flaring on and off for the last 3 months and both my GI and I want to know what's going on. She felt like a sigmoidoscopy would be fine but I said I'd really like the "full monty" since I have pancolitis and I've been having abdominal pain (along with the rectal stuff). I also can get some pretty nasty spasms which can last all day which follow right after my morning BM, yet another reason I want a full scope and w/ biopsies.

My last scope was done when I was on no meds and in the midst of a very very bad flair so that GI doc got to see my worst and my colitis' best...this time around I am feeling tons better than before the meds but I still get long lasting mild to moderate flares in between periods of remission. My doc switched me to Pentasa and Corti foam which seem to be working...I can only pray they work long term (The Good Lord Willing :-) ).

I'm having my scope done at U of M's Miller School of Medince by the head of their GI dept and I'm finally able to have a GI trained pathologist look at my biopsies....being an educated patient is truly the only way to go.

Talk to you guys soon :-) .

When was your last scope done? Owee to having it done with no meds. I was knocked out this time, completely, (no versed) but about 20 minutes after it was done I felt great and back to normal. I don't like the Versed stuff at all!!

hey bbc, good luck w/the scope! For the prep I got great advice here, drink the nasty prep stuff over ice w/a straw w/stuff you do not mind not wanting to drink again.

I too just became dx'd w/pancolitis after it only affecting the first 25cm of my colon I had the same 'new' experiences as you. I was very upset but then reconciled myself to it. I am in pred induced remission right now, trying to get off of it. I hope all goes well.
Beth, 33 ~ hoping to taper pred successfully, wish me luck!

Thanks Sunshine.

Last scope was 16 mos ago; no meds meant no meds for UC, as I was not offcially dx'd until after that scope; so this time we'll see how I look while on the meds.

Hang in, it will be over quick. Drink your prep with a straw!
Hope the meds help soon.
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering.
Asacol/5ASA 6x400 mg maintenance for 20+ years; use prednisone & Rowasa for flares.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed gluten, other intolerances; started diet without gluten, soy, dairy, tomato etc. Replete probiotic first, now Forte pills.
Achieved remission for the first time in many, many years!? Seemed so, but colonoscopy Oct. 6 proved not so, heavy inflammation in ascending colon & will be using Rowasa again. But I AM better.

Hi guy's.

Started my prep at 11 a.m. today (did the two pills and then 6 glasses of the lemon lime stuff...YUCK!!!). My anus and rectum are so sore from the 5 BM I've already had today.

BTW, last night I ate a pizza and had 2 Tasti Delights soft serves cones in South Beach YUUUUMMMM...haven't had pizza and frozen yogurt in a long long time.

I have actually been feeling really good in the last week and am very curious about how things are looking in there.

kazygirl...good luck tomorrow...mine is scheduled for 11 a.m....btw what brand of coated fish oil are you taking?

I'll report back after all is done and thanks again to all for all the good wishes...you guys rock!

Hi guy's had my colonoscopy today and I was given a report that my colon was healthy (thank God : ) ) I now have to wait for the biopsy results which will take up to a week. The only thing I didn't like is they did not use an Anesthesiologist so I got the stuff that makes you want to sleep all day; I would have thought at a teaching hospital they could have done better in that area, but everything else was fine. My last scope was done when in the midst of the worst flair ever and with no meds, and during this one I was feeling really good and was on meds and I wonder how I would have done without my meds; (I haven't taken any for the 2 days) but I'm back on them tonight.

Thanks again for the support

Hi Q,

Yes the news was a blessing thanks : ), but I know all too well that I was able to go into remmision even before I started using meds and I don't know how I, or my docs for that matter know which it really is? I will say one thing about the meds, when I flair now my symptoms are much less than before the meds but somedays can still be quite severe. I have recently been playing around with a natural anti fungal (black currant oil capsules) and added vitamin K to my supplements which could also be partly responsible. I did not have the opportunity to ask my doc about all this but I will when she calls with the biopsie results.

So, I am beyond thankful I feel better, just wish I knew what really got me here.
