Basically, my life has gone like this: Parents divorced when I was 7, dealt with (and still do) absolutely horrible step-parents, dealt with a diabetic father, diagnosed with UC on my 18th birthday, dealt with a drug-addict brother, raped on my 21st birthday, had to come home from college early, and still manage to smile everyday....I am so blessed to have parents that love me, a husband that takes care of me all the time with nothing but a smile on his face, a wonderful job, and two great pets that are my babies.

However, I have reached my breaking point. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for 8 months. I just had some blood work done and it shows that I am not ovulating because....wait for it....I am now being diagnosed with hypothyroidism! Great! Looking at the big picture it really isn't that big of a deal. So many people have this and it is easily treated but really? God wants to throw me ANOTHER curve ball? I never play the "poor me" card but today I am. I have done nothing but burst into tears every 15 minutes...which is NOT like me at all. Through the toughest times I can make lemonade from lemons! I pride myself on being so emotionally strong....just not today.

Sorry for my little cry/scream fest. blush

Don't apologize - we all need rants. It's the only way we stay sane! Having gone through infertility for three years now, having an ectopic pregnancy that I had to have surgically removed and having just lost our baby at 20 weeks, I can tell you if hypothyroidism is all that is wrong that is great. Did your doc check all of your hormone levels to be sure that is everything? If your insurance will cover it, I'd go ahead and have a reproductive endocrinologist run tests just to be sure. They look at more things and will check to be sure you don't have PCOS, which also causes someone not to ovulate. There are actually several things that can cause that, so you want to be sure. I found out that I don't either but I have something totally different AND hypothyroidism. If that is your only issue the medication should reflect in your blood levels within a few weeks and you'll be right on course. Good luck to you and your husband - I hope everything works out for you!

Thanks for the well wishes! My OB that ran the tests and prescribed the medicine to treat hypothyroidism is optimistic that this will be easily treated and hopeful that once I am regulated I will start to ovulate. However, he said if in 6 weeks when I am tested again, it turns out that I am still not regulated he is going to send me to an endocrinologist. Until then we are keeping out fingers crossed. And you are completely right....It could be so much worse and I am grateful every day that this is all I have to deal with. It just gets hard sometimes to keep on the up.

Hi Maureen,

Sorry you're having one of those days when its all just too much to bear.  You've been through A LOT and don't need to apologize for breaking down.  I can't say I know what you're going through - all we have in common is the UC.  But I do hope that you can still the light at the end of the tunnel.  You know that old saying - Things can only get better from here

Sometimes life just doesn't seem to follow the direction you want it to.  I had two miscarriages before successfully having my son.  After the second miscarriage, I was questioning whether I was supposed to be a mom and getting really down about it all.  Then, suddenly, I was pregnant again and things were looking good.

I know its hard to think that good times may be right around the corner, but they really can be.  Just take it one day at a time and remember that we're here for you.  Good luck with everything and let us know how you're doing.
