Amoxicillin put me into a huge flare a couple years ago that has never really ended... and I stopped it after two days and was even taking probiotics a few hours apart. It is a true killer for me. So sorry you have to suffer through this. In the future I won't take antibiotics unless it is specifically for my UC as therapy, or a matter of life and death.

I am so sorry that you are hurting.  I am fortunate in that I have made it thru the "worst" part of my flare.  Yes, still flaring, but not in the worst part of the pain.  It's frustrating when you are afraid to eat.  You are smart to eat a little at a time.  That is what I did.

I hope you feel better soon!

Sorry you have been so sick.  I also had reaction to both those antibiotics and Amoxicillin is what brought this one last time.  I won't take it again.  As someone above said - I will not take any antibiotic except for UC or my life!

Talking about worst case scenario for you....glad some aspects are improving. Sometimes the process to get better, while important, can have side effects making other things worse.

Do make sure you take probiotics...!!

Hope you steadily improve daily.

I agree with the use of probiotics. At the end of August I had to use penicillin for a tooth issue - sent me into a flare. After a MONTH of doubled up doses of probiotics, I started doing better. It took longer than I expected to counter act the negative effects of the antibiotics.

I have doubled my probiotics and agree the that taking something to make one thing better upsets other things at the time it's which one hurts most and treat that thanks for all your support.

Try to tell my gastro doc that.  He believe I should take the medications, suffer the side effects and go into remission.  I took Colazal and Rowasa as long as I could stand it but felt like I had the flu and could not leave the house and it just kept getting worse - so I quit the medication.  There is fine line sometimes and I know when it is crossed!

Think I finally convinced my NP that small doses I could handle would take longer but that is what I am trying now.  UC is getting better but whether I can go into complete remission is doubtful (according to doc).  Going to gry it anyway.

That sounded really painful. Not a good way to lose weight. But I would probably be thinking the same thing. I was so tickled last year when I got on the scale and realized I had lost 8 pounds overnight with the stomach flu!! I really tried to keep it off...
Agreed, keep up the good probiotics.
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering.
Asacol/5ASA 6x400 mg maintenance for 20+ years; use prednisone & Rowasa for flares.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed gluten, other intolerances; started diet without gluten, soy, dairy, tomato etc. Replete probiotic first, now Forte pills.
Achieved remission for the first time in many, many years!? Seemed so, but colonoscopy Oct. 6 proved not so, heavy inflammation in ascending colon & will be using Rowasa again. But I AM better.
