my doctor has prescribe me a rectal med that starts with ace cant remember the name my insurance wont cover it. my question is what is a good rectal med that i can see if my insurance will cover it? i get a medical card

 i was diagnosed with uc on april.16,2003. had my sec. colonoscopy on aug.22,2008 came back normal.

quit smoking almost a year ago,been having little flares since then.

i also take nexium 40mg once a day for acid reflux.

Rowasa (mesalamine) enemas are available in generic form and most insurance covers generics.

tks i'll see if he'll call that one in, and by the way the one that was called in for me is acetate 25mg

Pamela, I think that might be a hydrocortisone suppository like I'm on; if so, they only cost about 50 cents a pill at full price. If this is what it is, it might be worth shelling out the $10-15 for a month's supply.

Dx ulcerative proctitis, 3-5 cm, June 2008 (after 5 weeks of blood and mucous) and still flaring
Canasa 1000 mg suppositories and 2 tsp smooth texture Metamucil nightly
25 mg hydrocortisone suppositories and 1 Garden of Life Primal Defense Ultra in a.m.
Effexor 37.5, Remeron 30 mg, Clonazepam .5 mg (or more) and Trazodone 75 mg for sleep/anxiety
2.5 mg methimazole for thyroid
Trying acupuncture
Osteopenia and other assorted ailments

Rowasa & Canasa Are get, I use them and alternate between them nightly.

I've only had success with cortifoam, none of the others did anything at all for me.

:)
My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)

The suppository HAS helped with the bleeding for me. I don't get a lot of cramping so can't comment on that.
