I am having a colonoscopy tomorrow to see how far the disease has spread. I have just started to take the 'Kleen prep' solution and its vile!! I have had picolax and citrameg before which have been horrible but bearable but this stuff is supposed to taste of vanilla... I hate vanilla. Can I mix this with some orange squash to hide the flavour? Not sure if i'm allowed to do this but I dont know how i'm going to swallow this solution otherwise. i have tried to drink through a straw and also sucking a boiled sweet at the same time but nothing makes any difference. i am physically gagging with each mouthful.  Please any advice would be much appreciated.

I was told not to drink anything with my prep that had red, orange, or purple coloring.

I gagged with my prep last week. Not pleasant. I had to keep sucking on the straw and thinking about other things or looking out the window to take my mind off of it. Sometimes I'd only make it through 1/3 of the glass before I'd have to take a swig of something else and then continue.

I know someone mentioned mixing in some sugar to help with the taste of another prep. Although it would be best to contact your doc or pharmacist to see if that would negatively affect the prep.

When I do these preps, I keep thinking I should have learned how to shoot a beer in college - at least then I'd be able to down those glasses of nasty easier!

Best of luck!

you cannot mix it with anything you can't see through or red.

Try mixing it with water? more water? hold your nose when you drink it.

I've never used it...I do the gallon preps, but the ones without any flavouring either in the mix itself or that one adds to the gallon.

Hope you get through it OK...

Did I read you right that you want to mix the prep solution with squash? Wouldn't that be eating something solid? Maybe I misunderstood. In that case, I've been told to avoid red, blue, and orange drinks as well. I'm not familiar with the prep you are doing, but are you allowed to drink something like gatorade with it? You know, a couple of swigs of the nasty stuff, then chase it with the gatorade. Before you do that though, check with your doc. I'm just throwing out an idea, and I'd hate to be the cause of your prep not doing its job.

Good luck with the scope tomorrow.

Thanks guys for all your help, squash is water diluted cordial here in the uk,I guess it's not called squash in USA?. I called the hospital and they said ok to use lemon squash as it's not coloured. I have to drink 4 litres of this prep in 4-6 hours, hence rather a lot of fluid! .I've done 2 litres now and stomachs gurgling and cramping and I look about 6 months pregnant but nothing happening ye,t Picolax is so much easier to take but I react badly to it. I hope they sort it tomorrow, I don't want to be doing this again any time soon!!!

You shouldn't be at your computer, you should be hovering in the bathroom by now! And no, as far as I know, we don't have squash cordials in the US.

You know, I always try to keep that mindset and I still can't get it down. I put my head back, open my throat, and chug as much as I can and it still doesn't really help. I usually end up gagging and almost puking it all up. I've thought about just mixing it with vodka, it couldn't make it taste any worse and at least then I'd get drunk hahah

I made the mistake of mixing all (powder laxative) with the same thing (Grape Propel, it's clear). I wished half way through that I had kept some in plain water, or anything else. I considered sending hubby out for another bottle so I could make a switch! But I made it through.
Good luck!

Once again, shouldn't you be hanging out in the bathroom? Or do you have a laptop so you can give us up to the minute news and details?

I have to do this next week and use Miralax.  Wish I could just mix with water but Iunderstand we have to replace the electrolytes, etc. so they told me that I have to use Gatorade or Powerade - yuck!  Threw up the last of it in June - I only like red or orange flavors!

you have to hold your nose very very tight and do not breathe through your nose. that is what makes you taste things.
hold your nose, chug it, then with your nose still held (dont let go) chug something to chase it with. i use gingerale as that is a pretty strong flavor and on the approved clear fluids list.
keep chugging with nose still held. then let go of nose (dont breathe through it) and chug some more. then take a big sniff of the chaser you are using.
that should help.
after that, your on your own with just you and the toilet and lots of vaseline for the pooper.

i tell you what.. i just did mine last week and its a good thing the mind blocks out the really bad bits cuz if it didnt, i reckon no one would ever have more than one colonoscopy.
sheesh.
i cried it was so bad. someone needs to invent some numbing butthole gel for this prep stuff. i swear, i woulda paid $100 for a small tube of anything to numb my arsehole.

I had a scope at the beginning of last Sept, and I used the Miralax method for the first time. I didn't find the taste offensive at all, and it didn't seem like too much to drink for either. Plus it cleaned me out better than I've ever been cleaned before!

Based on others experiences, as well as my own, I'd like to make a few suggestions you won't see on the instruction sheet. First off, start the liquid diet a couple of days earlier. I know it is hard, but you'll understand why when you do the prep. When you are shopping for your liquid meals, but you sports beverage of choice and get it in the fridge ASAP. Find a tolerable non-red, orange, or blue sports drink and buy it early, and get it chilled.

The morning of the prep day, mix the Miralax into the beverage and shake vigorously for awhile, then shake it some more. Then put it back in the fridge. It goes down better when it is cool. If you're instructions were like mine, I wasn't supposed to start drinking it until 5pm! That is way too late!!! I got absolutely no sleep that night, unless you count my legs falling asleep from sitting on the pot all night. I'd take the pills and start drinking around noon of the prep day.

I'm not sure if my case was extreme, but after you down the liquid, stay very close to the toilet. The urgency is beyond urgency, it is more like you should have predicted the movement two minutes earlier. I'll admit I ended up with an accident because I wasn't prepared for the suddenness of the expulsion. I was still having urgency feelings the next afternoon before the scope despite there being nothing to get rid of. Despite what I just described, I'd prefer to use the Miralax method again over any of the other preps. I went down better, cleaned me out better, and I didn't wind up throwing up half the solution.

Let us know how things look, If they give you picturesm you could post them as kind of a "This is what I did with my summer vacation" display. Maybe you'll start a trend and soon everyone will have colon pictures by their signatures. I just realized how tired and loopy I am, so I gotta head off to bed.

Spudly, let us know how things looked and what the prelim results were. After supporting you through the prep, I feel that I need some closure on the subject now.

Does Osmoprep work? Is it too expensive? The blurb says you can take this virtually tasteless tablet with your own choice of clear fluids.

What does Miralax taste like?

A work colleague also told me that Diacol was a new purgative that might get used in Australia, but i read that it got FDA approval way back in 2000. Has anyone ever heard of it? It might be called Visicol in the US. It is also a tablet.

As I only have about 3 weeks till my op, I am hoping that i never have another colonoscopy (prep) ever again!

Brandon - next Monday is prep day for me but my scope is not until noon the next day.

In june I used MIralax and they gave me that instructions this time also - I mixed with Gatorade - I hate Gatorade - tasted slightly salty Gatorade - YUCK!  I threw up near the end and left about a cupful.  I have used other preps years ago - don't remember - pills and that liquid in green bottle once - never threw up.  I am hoping I can avoid it this time.  I was told I could substitue Powerade but I hate that too except red.  Not sure what to buy but will get something and do the best I can.  I just always get nauseated drinking anything without food.  By the way, liquid or lite diet two days before is the best advice - did that last time.

I used the TUCKS medicated pad between cleasing bathroom visits. I just left it on there. It help ease the pain quite a bit. I also just hold my nose ans try to chug the junk down. It gets difficult toawrds the end though. The lite to liwquid diet 1-2 days before the prep is really the way to go.
