Okay, so after having the end of my arm bone dissolve as a result of Entocort, and after having a broken leg from the osteoporosis, I swore I'd never take a steroid again. Yesterday I had to give up. My chronic cough that I've had for four months has been completely worked up. I have no bronchitis, irritation, or other medical cause that can be determined. Allergy medicine, including Singulair, doesn't help. Cough medicine doesn't help unless it contains codeine. So I reluctantly started back on Advair twice a day, because it cleared up my asthmatic-sounding cough several years ago.

I took the first dose at 8 PM. The muscle cramp in my right leg woke me up at 3 AM. Why do I have to be so darned sensitive to steroids???  shakehead

I am so sorry, I don't hate the steriods as much as you........yet. I hope you can get off of them quickly. Drinking cranberry juice fortified with potassium really helped my leg cramps.

I read in the Wall Street Journal that the thing that tested best for coughs, better than any cough medicine, was ALEVE. Because it gets to the irritation/inflamation. Who knew?? I know it's not the best for UC, but if you are suffering give it a try. I take a lot of Aleve, it's the only way I can get rid of back pain or cramps (other than oxycodone!).

And eat bananas!!

I get long periods of chronic cough after every head cold, I never it was related to any of this. I hope you feel better soon!
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering.
Asacol/5ASA 6x400 mg maintenance for 20+ years; use prednisone & Rowasa for flares.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed gluten, other intolerances; started diet without gluten, soy, dairy, tomato etc. Replete probiotic first, then Forte pills.
Achieved remission for the first time in many, many years!? Seemed so, but colonoscopy Oct. 6 proved not so, heavy inflammation in ascending colon & will be using Rowasa again. But I AM better.

Peety, I take naproxen regularly for my arthritis. I'm stocked up on bananas and orange juice. The last time this happened, it advanced right into reactie airway disease (asthma), but we never found a cause. Allergy testing was negative, so my allergist said "non-IG-E mediated reaction."

Doc gave me one sample diskus, that's enough for 14 days. I'm going to stop after that and compare. Hopefully the short course will kick this whatever out of me.

Hey, been there - done that! :) I have never been on oral pred but after a year of being on the steroid enemas I seem to be sensitive to any and all steroids now. It's like I never stopped whenever I have to use any sort of steriod now. When I had the steroid injections in my neck, I was up all night for 2 days in a row and ended up with severe steroid facial flushing. But, sometimes we have to use steroids as evil as they may be. I just wish they would come up with a better med that doesn't have all those side effects!
