Ok so i'm on my 5 th day of pred(final day of this short course) and things are getting worse.I'm having really sudden spasms everywere in my colon and a burning sensation in my whole colon.(this might sound crazy but im hoping someone else has had similar problems). i'M THINKING this might be  turning into a crazy flare up or maybe its a gastric bug on top of my uc.
I'm really inflamed low down too and the proctifoam isn't really numbing the pain like it usually does.Any other advice would be welcome.

Those symptoms are ones I experience in my worse flares (plus urgency).
Sounds like you didn't take the prednisone long enough to help. For example, any time I take, starting at 30 for two weeks or so, it will take about two months to be completely tapered off.

The short course you describe is what they give you for poison ivy or something like that!
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering.
Asacol/5ASA 6x400 mg maintenance for 20+ years; use prednisone & Rowasa for flares.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed gluten, other intolerances; started diet without gluten, soy, dairy, tomato etc. Replete probiotic first, then Forte pills.
Achieved remission for the first time in many, many years!? Seemed so, but colonoscopy Oct. 6 proved not so, heavy inflammation in ascending colon & will be using Rowasa again. But I AM better.

I've been on Pred for up to a few years a t a time usually on 60/70 mgs a time.oNE OF MY LAST EXPERIENCES WITH pRED WAS AWFUL and left me with scary side effects, thats the reason i think for my doc putting me on these short courses. I'm going to get another prescription today to keep me going until i meet with my GI this week
