Even though I am not in full remission, I am feeling better.  Yesterday I started on my low carb diet and did fine.  Am sooo tired of this extra weight from quitting smoking etc.  I had bacon and scrambled eggs for breakfast, salad for lunch, and baked chicken and salad for dinner.  I have so missed my salads and if I continue to do this well I will enjoy them from this day forward!  Just want this weight off = tired of it.

Thank you for listening to my small rant!

Hey Gigi, not a rant at all! Feeling good is the goal; and if it's losing weight for you and enjoying those salads, so be it! You have a great attitude and I have to tell you that my boyfriend felt the same way and he's lost 12 pounds and looks and feels great! So go for it and keep us up to date on how you are doing on your new trek!

Low carb is indeed an excellent way for IBDers to eat because it reduces or eliminates a lot of foods that can cause problems. Sadly, I'm not a big salad lover, but steamed veggies work just as well! Glad to hear you're feeling well.

Thanks you guys - I'll keep you posted! LOL we painted our sunroom today, was going to grill a pork tenderloin and have salad, but my husband said, honey, we've done enough your not cooking and he ordered pizza! Ok, so I had a day and a half on my low carb - will be back on it tomorrow and my tenderloin will be grilled!

I try to plan out our meals as best I can. My husband has figured out by now that sometimes there will be days where he's on his own to forage through the kitchen for food. I plan the meal to my satisfaction and he eats what he wants and that's it. I keep hot dogs frozen and such for him to eat, but the meals are prepared around me since I'm the one with the special dietary needs. It works out great for us.

A grilled pork tenderloin and salad is liked by both of us. He really likes the tenderloin on the grill and I like the salad. If we were to order a pizza here it's because I didn't feel like cooking and I would order it, but that is rare since pizza and I don't get along.

Awww! I was so pumped, I am starting today (after a binge with Doritos yesterday) and thought I had a mate, but you cheated!! Just kidding. But next time just eat the pizza toppings, it tastes the same (and is all I can do because of the gluten).

So start again TODAY! I want to lose about 15 pounds.
I should lose more, but then my clothes wouldn't fit even with alterations and I spent too much on them.
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering.
Asacol/5ASA 6x400 mg maintenance for 20+ years; use prednisone & Rowasa for flares.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed gluten, other intolerances; started diet without gluten, soy, dairy, tomato etc. Replete probiotic first, then Forte pills.
Achieved remission for the first time in many, many years!? Seemed so, but colonoscopy Oct. 6 proved not so, heavy inflammation in ascending colon & will be using Rowasa again. But I AM better.
