My 12 yr old daughter has had some blood in her bowel movements. She had blood once in August, just on the toilet paper, and pain with the bm, like it was a fissure or tear. It happened again in September. But this month it has happened 3 times, and 2 of those times the blood was on her stool.

She also feels like she has to "go" and nothing happens. She has had some mucus too. I am really upset. The irony is this August is the month I got diagnosed myself.

I am taking her to the doctor this week.  Ugh.

I often fear for my daughter as well since she is so like me, physically and genetically. I understand your fear. So hopefully it's nothing serious so please don't get too upset until you know for sure what it is. I know, easier said then done. Let us know what the doc says.

how awful-- I study my 6 year-old daughter's bm's every chance I get! And I still live in fear that she will develop IBD. If this does turn out to be IBD, there is a really good website, DragonPack.com, that has a forum for parents of children with IBD. I've heard rave reviews about that forum. But here's hoping it's nothing!

diagnosed with UC '02

I have a 6 year old son who was born before I was diagnosed with UC. He looks exactly like me. I'm very nervous he may develop UC in the future. Now I'm having to decide if I ever want to have another. I wouldnt ever want to pass my disease on to someone else, so Im trying to decide if I want to get a vasectomy.

Think positive!!
I hope she is OK
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering.
Asacol/5ASA 6x400 mg maintenance for 20+ years; use prednisone & Rowasa for flares.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed gluten, other intolerances; started diet without gluten, soy, dairy, tomato etc. Replete probiotic first, then Forte pills.
Achieved remission for the first time in many, many years!? Seemed so, but colonoscopy Oct. 6 proved not so, heavy inflammation in ascending colon & will be using Rowasa again. But I AM better.

I took her in today and based on her symptoms the pediatrist was not very concerned!! She thinks its small tears, or fissures. We reassess in a month. It was just a relief to have a doctor not so freaked out. I know even if my daughter does have this, that we will get through it, day by day. God has gotten me through this, and I know he will be there for her. I just felt like I was so overwhelmed, one more thing......

In my family my mom has Crohns, and now I have Crohns/Colitis, so I can imagine my kids will have to watch for it too. Thank you so so much for being there for me when I vented. I was very upset. There are times when I think I never want to see a drop of blood again.

Oh, I'm so, so sorry you are going through this worry. I will pray for her and I really hope it's not too serious (not IBD). I know how silly this is, but I feel like I know you from all of the kind posts you have left, including for me. Please let us know how she is. God bless.
