Darn. Went and ate something I shouldn't have. Really shouldn't have. It's only at the incessant gas stage right now. Which is pretty darn annoying by itself. Maybe it's even connected to the heartburn I'm feeling now, which is so rare. Get heartburn a few times a year..... And I hear all those funny belly sounds...like the air is moving from section to section... rolleyes  It just really gets to me. Sometimes, after dealing with all the big things in life, it's the small things that really bug us. Thankfully, I'm home now and don't share much personal space with anyone.... Hope it doesn't get worse.

Now, how can gasiness be treated or alleviated, aside from letting it go...?

I wish there were something, but I think we'd all be using it if there were!
Probiotics? I think they give you more gas, at first anyway.

Ah, well, I hope it was delicious.
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering.
Asacol/5ASA 6x400 mg maintenance for 20+ years; use prednisone & Rowasa for flares.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed gluten, other intolerances; started diet without gluten, soy, dairy, tomato etc. Replete probiotic first, then Forte pills.
Achieved remission for the first time in many, many years!? Seemed so, but colonoscopy Oct. 6 proved not so, heavy inflammation in ascending colon & will be using Rowasa again. But I AM better.

I am SO there with you- I ate practically an entire pint of Ben & Jerry's pistachio ice cream over the past few nights... talk about gas, jeez I could power a car with this stuff! It's awful- I hate that feeling of gas bubbles moving inside you, but they don't come out, they just disappear somewhere for a little while. It's awful. I will not do ice cream again- sadly, I realized that this morning. I can do frozen yogurt fine, so that's where it's at for me. I have no gas tips aside from trying to pass it without passing mucous. Tough to do! I've tried Gas-X, antacids/antigas tablets- neither worked. Just let it rip!

diagnosed with UC '02
meds-
Asacol- 8 tabs/day
Remicade-10mgs/kg- since 4/07
Imuran- 150mgs/day
Culturelle
Fiber supplement

GAS-X or generic helps me a lot - have used it with IBS for years.  Of course, the main thing is to know what gives you the gas and avoid it or eat less.  Hard to do sometimes.  The gas-x will break up the gas into smaller bubbles - it will still come out but not hurt so much inside.  That is my experience.  My doc told me it was ok - check with yours.

I just took some gas-x this morning, trying to head off gas in the gut once I could feel it building up in my tummy. But I picture the ulcers in my colon festering and emitting gasses (yuk), I don't know if it works down there.

Information about GAS!  It is good to know the causes, etc.

You notice this is "senior health" but of course applies to all.

Well the white bean soup that triggered it was delicious and comforting on a cold, wet and dreary morning. Sharing lunch with a friend really made the day. The aftermath, about 10 hours later wasnt fun. So, I guess I had my fill of beans for the next looong while.

I looked at gas-x, beano and charcoal tablets in the pharmacy. I'll speak with my dr. about 'em.

Thanks for your posts and support!

Reduced to 2tabs 2x a day. Soon had a very mild flare. Upped to 6 tabs 2x a day. Rowasa enemas nightly. Soon replacing that with Cortifoam (generic). Dr. says it's like shooting a mouse with an elephant gun....

Yes, asking your doctor is best - he may have something much better.  I have used Beano just as they say "with the first bite" and seemed to help too! You just reminded me to pack it when going to Vegas - maybe I will try it but also eat as sensible as I can.
