I can't believe I have got to this point in my UC. Over 4.5 years ago I drank beer all night long, litterally didn't go to sleep drinking with some old high school buddies, and had D for the following days. Then came the blood and mucus. I was totally surprised and scared. But I was determined to get back to normal. You all have heard the same thing I did, "prescriptions for life!"
So I totally changed my lifestyle and diet and kept an intensive UC journal. I turned myself into a different person after UC in order to help my body. But I can look back at my first UC journals and laugh b/c although I thought I had been making major changes I wasn't doing enough.
Starting my 4th year with UC January 2008 I was totally off all prescriptions and feeling better than ever. Even better than when I was on immune suppressants, anti-inflamatories and steroids. This was the only time I gained some weight back, 10 pounds... But I tested my gut too much and flared again. Urgency was horrible this flare and I wore diapers for awhile and eventually took only prednisone to get me back to remission. Finally tapered off them and 2 or 3 weeks later the blood came back. GGrrr...
That's the flare I'm in now. It started with blood and formed stools, then watery D without blood, then back to formed stools with less and less blood each day. Since urgency is improving, I am seeing less blood, my stools are becoming more formed and my bones and joints are feeling way better I must believe I am getting better.
Prayer and knowledge of my body have given me power to heal i believe. My life as a single parent of a toddler and working 2 seasanol jobs as secondary part time jobs is rough. But as unstable as my life has been, especially with riding the prednisone rollercoaster and having my g/f and kids leave me a year after my diagnosis I have grown up a lot and my main goal is to help my parents who are staying with me buy a house and win custody of my daughter and keep my UC undercontrol through prayer and diet and lifestyle. I may be "speaking too soon," since I am so happy about my BM this morning and my decrease pain, but I really feel my UC is way better than it ever has been. I'm going to give my UC tips and suggestions later, maybe after I get off work... and update my sig..
