Proctofoam-HC is also contraindicated in the presence of fungal infection.

quincy or anyone who understands.  Would that mean fungal infection anywhere in your body or ON your body.  I almost continuously fight fungal infection in dark/damp places.  Probably silly question but just reading material that came with the foam.

I would think that it means an active fungal infection, because it can exacerbate the symptoms of the fungus. It's not a silly question.

How bad are your infections? and do you use anything for them like Canesten ovules?

I have a bad area right now in my groin area - getting better slowly - I use OTC
clotrimazole.  I have tried stronger prescription medication but it makes it worse - remember my sensitivity to ALL medication.  I do not have yeast infections, thank goodness - just this fungus that a lot of obese people have.  Even if I shower more often it pops up FAST - like overnight.  I have that sweating in the night most nights that I am sure contributes.  It is usually in my groin, under stomach and under breasts.  I started the Proctofoam last night - hope everything looks better by Thursday when we fly off to Vegas.

Elaine, some people have good luck dusting the "damp areas" with Lotrimin powder once or twice a day. It's made for athelete's foot, and your situation is very similar to that condition.

Thanks - that sounds good Judy.  I use cornstarch powder sometimes.  All powder hurts when skin inflammed but when not it is good to keep it dry.  I guess when it feels good I forget the powder - dah!

I would think that cornstarch would make a fungal infection worse...something for it to feed on rather than hinder considering. I would definitely use an antifungal powder...maybe mixed with an unscented talc or something like that.

What do you use to wash your clothes? rinse? fabric softener?

Please be careful with talc near your vaginal area, studies show that it can be a factor in ovarian cancer.

I agree with the cornstarch now that you mention it.  It is baby powder with corn starch and I rarely use it - just used to keep the area dry.  I think I will get some of that powder for jock itch (which is what it really is). I may react to that as I do a LOT of stuff but worth the try.

As for laundry, clothes, etc. - I use cotton mostly, no scented products at all including unscented fabric sheets.  I am sure if I showered every day and used the powder when problem is dormant it would help.  BUT - my other skin problems - soooo dry, etc. I cannot shower every day - every third day and wash my hair.  I don't use any soap directly on those areas and I rinse thoroughly.  I have dealt with this for many years off and on and it is mostly because of my obesity and folds of fat - have to be honest here!

Yes, MMMNAVY - I only use what doctor gave me for the vagina - cream for itching  after I had the area tested.  ONLY once in many years did it spread that far - generally is in creases everywhere else.

Thanks.

It would be best to shower daily, soap the privates and pits as well as the folds areas (I'm thinking maybe phisoderm or something like that . Dry the fold areas well with a clean towel and apply the antifungal.

I'm wondering how an antipirspirant like the crystal (altghough it is aluminum), or one with just potassium, would work to help keep those areas dry?

i agree with talc or baby powder...but maybe something that a health store could suggest?

You might try Kaolin...the stuff they use kaopectate from...maybe a small amount might work?

Thanks for the suggestions quincy.  Unfortunately, I cannot shower every day - but I usually do better when the fungus is bad.  My knees are so bad and it takes so much out of me to shower every day - do the best I can.  I do often wash the area affected before applying medication.
