My husband is popping popcorn again and it smells so good! He does this to me two or three times a week. I love buttered popcorn, but it's one of the few foods that I've made totally off-limits for myself while flaring.

BUT I WANT SOME!

Yes, it's kind of like eating knives. I've been in remission for over two years now, and it's the only thing I haven't had the nerve to eat so far.

i have no problem with popcorn, but never eat the microwave kind.

There is I believe, hull-less popcorn..don't know which brand, however...if you have an air-popper, it's easier to digest that kind than microwave kind.

You could see if you can find popcorn twists...it may be a reasonable facsimile.

We have a nice stove-top popper; I don't like the microwave kind (and in fact, I got rid of our microwave about a year ago). I'll have to look for hull-less popcorn. It's just that the smell lingers in the house every time he pops some. I can still smell it now, in fact.

I lucked up - my Jim was diagnosised w/ diverticulosis so now he can't torture me w/ popcorn! I gave what we had to our grandson. We use to do the stove top w/ smart balance oil - I never did like the micro popcorn. But omg how nice it would be to have some. Oh well, life goes on even w/out popcorn!

I pick off the hulls because my cat loves it. So that can be done...
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering.
Asacol/5ASA 6x400 mg maintenance for 20+ years; use prednisone & Rowasa for flares.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed gluten, other intolerances; started diet without gluten, soy, dairy, tomato etc. Replete probiotic first, then Forte pills.
Achieved remission for the first time in many, many years!? Seemed so, but colonoscopy Oct. 6 proved not so, heavy inflammation in ascending colon & will be using Rowasa again. But I AM better.

You may all think this is disgusting but it works if you are really craving it. Only try this at home.....Chew the popcorn and don't swallow it, spit it in a bag. I know that sounds terrible but it will cure your craving and if you are in the privacy of your own home, who cares. We all love popcorn, it doesn't seem to bother me but it does Sierra. So when she really can't fight the craving, that's what she does. A friend suggested it and she was reluctant at first but tried it and was excited to know she could taste it without hurting herself. I haven't ever seen hull-less popcorn but that would be great. If anyone knows where to find it, please let us know!

My kids do that to me too - I absolutely LOVE the smell of popcorn, but any sort of corn product just doesn't agree with me. I eat Doritos though because I refuse to eliminate ALL the bad things - hey gotta have a few bad vices ya? :) I agree that maybe you should try the hull-less to see if you can tolerate it. Most times Uc'ers have a hard time with the hull because it can't be digested. And it scrapes coming out which as you know can be very uncomfortable!
