well, ive had my pentasa suppositories for 2 weeks now and they are all still just sitting there in the box with the stupid little finger condoms to insert them with.

my arse is just so sore and tender and stuff always coming out of it, i just cant bring myself to use them.

should i be?
how do you do it?
nights and mornings are the worst for me in regards to running to the can.... how the hell do they stay in there?

what to do?
any advise for someone who really doesnt want to use them?
steph - 32 - female - gold coast australia - UC since 2000

mesalazine granules 3g x1 a day (much nicer than a million tablets a day)
prednisolone 25mg x1 a day (ick ick and did i say ick?)
enteric coated fish oil -omega 3 (so they get all the way to my colon)
vitamin D3 x1 a day
tumeric capsules - if i remember to take the bloody things.
i still eat what i want, when i want, if i feel like eating at all :(

I use them as well and they do make a difference so they are worth taking, a bit of inconvenience is better than needing the loo all the time plus as your colon gets better by using them they become easier to use (it's harder at first with inflammation and blood present)

I use some aloe vera and smear it all over the finger sleeve then insert that without putting the pentasa in which kind of lubricates things first then put some aloe vera on the pentasa and insert that, definately use some lubrication as it can be quite painful and difficult otherwise. I push them in about a full fingers length.

Do it on a night just before you go to bed helps you keep it in and forget about it and it has the maximum time to work.

I found asacol tabs don't do much for me but the pentasa really make a difference so do it, within 3-4 days you may not need to run to the can anymore.

Agree with taking them right before going to bed. You may also want to look into the supplement FissureHeal or ask your doc for some cortisone cream to help with the anal soreness and discomfort.
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999.

Maintenance dose sulfasalazine.
Probiotics, l-glutamine and fish oil caps. George's aloe vera juice. Oregano oil antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal. Long-term remission with only minor blips.

wet them with a bit of warm water before you use them...and insert past your first nuckle..you'll feel it whem it's in the right place

you could also lube up the finger condom.

just use them...as well, get a tube of hydrocortisone cream to use on your sore butt or proctocedyl from prescription.

Or at least start using them during the time of day that you have the least frequency and then hopefully before long you'll be non-active at bedtime and be able to start using them at that time so they can have all night long to absorb better...use vaseline and just do it, it's uncomfortable/weird feeling at first but it goes away....and it's better than having proctitis.

Just a note on vaseline.  Don't use it.  Use a water soluble lubricant like KY jelly or AYR.  vaseline will not melt and let the suppository work properly.

Hey, by the way, no one ever told me aout finger condoms or whatever.  I just put mine in with my clean finger and wash it good after.

its mainly just severe left sided colitis.
