are you expecting your period soon? ovulating possibly?

Are you having any other symptoms?

If this is a recent change, could you have eaten something that would have caused you gas or discomfort in the last day or so? just thinking of transit time as to when it could be reaching the cecum/colon.

Is your UC throughout your colon?

What dosage of pred are you on at this time?

I've just tapered off the pred on sunday, i was fine this morning, had the usual for breakfast the about 5 hours ago the pain started!
I've just come off my period, and i dont seem to have any extra gas than usual... Im worried i think i may go to the hospital and see what they say, as the pain is getting stronger...

Try to avoid the hospital ER, you'll just sit and wait and be miserable and come out broke.
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering.
Asacol/5ASA 6x400 mg maintenance for 20+ years; use prednisone & Rowasa for flares.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed gluten, other intolerances; started diet without gluten, soy, dairy, tomato etc. Replete probiotic first, then Forte pills.
Achieved remission for the first time in many, many years!? Seemed so, but colonoscopy Oct. 6 proved not so, heavy inflammation in ascending colon & will be using Rowasa again. But I AM better.

about the E.R. When I go in, I mention having UC, and what the problem is, and then they bring me in immediately. Not sure about all hospitals, but that's what Kaiser has done for me, so I was going to suggest going to the E.R. because it sounds like the pain is getting bad.

Hey guys just got back from ER, it as a bit of wait but at least they were thorough!

They ruled out the appendix etc and said i have a urine infection that has traveled up. The issue i have is i've been put on a 3 day course of antibiotics and the last two times ive had this drug i've flared, ironically im just recovering from my last flare that was brought on by the drug!

So what am i to do?Im in a lot of pain, and it just seems endless i fix one thing and mess up another! Is the anything i can take to lessen the effects on my colon?

What antibiotic are you on?

You must take it.....but start taking some probiotics to help keep the flora in your gut as balanced as possible.

hope you feel better soon.

Cefalexin is a common antibiotic given for infections. I've never used it, but my husband has.

I personally don't agree well with yogurt products, I take capsule probiotics.

Are you meaning you don't have access to any pharmacies or health food stores to get other probiotics?

They would also help your urinary tract infection.

Did you not have any urethra pain while urinating?  That's usually a sign of early UTI.

you're welcome! Make sure you take the probiotics about 2 hours after your antibiotics...you could check with the pharmacist to make sure.

If you can get Culturelle, that would be good...where are you located?

It's good to hear you're already improving.

I hear you Mia!  I had a bad UTI/ kidney infection last Christmas and was flaring at the same time.  My regualar MD tested my urine because I was seeing blood in it (I had kidney stones so I wasn't horribly worried).  She called to tell me my culture results and she said "you're sure you're not having any pain? You have a RAGING infection!"  It was really sad though because her saying that made me cry... I told her I was just so used to being in pain I didn't notice anything different! :) Isn't UC great.... good luck to you!

If the yogurt helps, then continue to take it.

Chicagoatc...wow...that totally makes sense when one is in continual pain and there are so many things going on in the same area.

It's good you persisted.
