I'm goin on vacation on the 29th, so I better start this med to get the side effects and get it in my system right? Anways, all the other meds give me a nervous feeling, does anyone take this and are ok? I just feel all these meds make me tired too, but eventually the blood does stop. When I was on asacol, very nervous and never, never a formed stool and doc said your ulcers are gone! I read a post where it gave some formed stool, no urgency and If I can get there, I'm willing to try this stuff. I was recommeded 4 a day, I have mild UC or course in a flare. I just don't want to be so sick like some of the other meds make me feel, so sick.
If you can help with comments or suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.
First scope 7/05 should no UC, but I was bleeding with urgency. Sigmoid showed UC at rectum, 2nd colonoscopy & Endoscopy 7/27/07, Left sided colitis and near cecum (mild)
8/1/08 on sulfasalazine 2 2x's a day, canasa often.

4 daily is a high dosage...are you still using the Canasa?

Hi Heather,

Well I just got off Valtrex and I thought, I hit the miracle pill. It seemed to make me feel so good and then my stools weren't so bad b/c it says one of the side effects is constipation. I need constipation right now. What do you suggest?

My GI, she was great at the colonoscopy, but you can't get in to see her for months. I have a appt in December. I can get all the meds I want over the phone, but to see her, it's like you can't! You would think she'd want to see me??

I will start canasa back up, but what about Lialda. What are hearing, good or bad?

Linda

Hi, I have been on Lialda on and off for a year and a half...I was up tp four pills a day during the peak of my last flare. I have been on two pills a day since August. I have never had any side effects or problems with it at all. When I was in a bad flare the Lialda alone did not control it and I had to be on pred and Lialda both. Now I take two Lialda and Canasa daily to try to keep me in remission. I would suggest that you take the pills with food because it helps get them to move down into your intestines where they begin to disolve. Best of luck to you!
Dx 2006 right after the birth of my daughter
Lialda varies 2-4 pills a day
Canasa on and off as needed
Probiotics
Just tappered off pred

when you say, fine for me, are you having formed stool, no urgency? Will I ever achieve this? Even when they told me ulcers were gone, I always had urgency and diarreah. I'm very discouraged with the meds.

Consistency is the key. You should definitely be on the Canasa..that's what will help the urgency.

I'm all for 5ASA meds...I'm just saying that you're on the highest dosage...aren't you sensitive to 5ASA meds??

Hi Heather,

The 5ASA, yes make me nervous and jittery. You'll probably roll your eyes when I say this, but I started the sunflower seeds and spinach 3 days ago. The blood tapered, no blood today, yesterday, very, very, very little. My stools are bettered formed, but I'm going to still do the canasa. I hope it doesn't make me start to bleed. I feel so good throughout the day, but then in the afternoon I do go to the bathroom, lots of poo and urgently, however I'm able to go and get of the toilet, where before I would spend a hour in pain. There maybe something to the sunflower seeds being high in magnesium and cooper? I'm doing the canned spinach, I love spinach anyway, always have so it's not biggie to eat a can a day.

I will start the canasa.

Thanks,

Linda

it would be good for you to do the lowest dosage possible.

Seems the spinach and sunflower seed addition for some has an impact...at least people are eating.
