Hi everyone, I woke up this morning and my bed was spinning... I got up to go poopie, and almost passed out. I am curious if there is a connection between U/C and Vertigo? I did go poopie earlier and had D, the dizzyness is a LITTLE better after that, but my GI's office says it's probably an inner ear thing. I have noticed a little ear pain the last few days, but not enough to even give it a second thought. I was on a plane last week to go see my son graduate from Basic Training in the Army so maybe I picked up a bug on the plane? all I know is THIS SUCKS.. I hate feeling dizzy....

Hi...definitely if you have an aching ear and are dizzy, I'd say either virus or infection.

If you were a bit stuffed up or your ears make noise when you blow it...your eustachian tubes are affected as well.

I have a vestibular disorder (since I was 11), BPPV, now in both ears, and when I'm sick with a cold, it's definitely affected somewhat in my left ear.

Add a plane trip, ouch!

Sudafed can be your best friend...to help keep the eustachian tubes open and help drain. If you have an infection, best to get on meds if you can...

I feel for you...truly.

Antinausea meds will help take the edge off....in Canada, we have Gravol..don't know what it would be in the US.

Hope you feel better soon.

Vertigo is often caused by an inner ear infection. The balance organs are located there, and presure on them will cause vertigo. Especially with the ear pain this is a possibility. If you have further episodes, see a doctor. They're usually easily cleared up with antibiotics.

It is possible that you are severley anaemic from the inflammation and blood loss - this can cause sensations of dizziness and almost passing out (been there myself). When was your last blood test, and what were the haemoglobin levels like?

I can say with experience that if you do have an ear infection, do not go anywhere near an emergency department or clinic if at all possible... go to an ear (ENT) specialist. Of course, not that easy on weekend but if you can tough it out with pain relief and see a specialist on Monday, it will save you trauma from unqualified people treating it. Specialists can clean out and treat an infected ear very gently- they have the special equipment and training for it.

Are you on an ssri like zoloft? My wife had horrible vertigo as she weaned off. Dr didn't figure it out until I researched it... just an idea...

I had a sudden onset of vertigo last January. Whenever I would turn my head quickly or roll over in bed I would get vertigo so badly I would be nauseous. My eyes would also move quickly side to side uncontrollably during the episodes . I went to an ENT where I was dx'd with BPPV. They did the "Eppley Maneuver" there in the office and I haven't had any problems since. If your vertigo continues I would definitely go to an ENT.

Yeah, you could have picked up a bug on the plane. Are you nauseous in addition to feeling dizzy? This has happened to me in the early AM when I got up to use the john. Scary! Keep yourself hydrated & consult an ENT or internist or your gastro ASAP. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC; currently on 3 generic Colazal daily for maintenance of remission)

Hi everyone.. I didn't post again yesterday because I was so out of it... I am a bit better today and now I have definate ear pain in my right ear mostly, but my left ear is also effected..... Let me tell you.. that was the scariest thing that has ever happened to me lately!!! I woke up and felt like the bed wouldn't ever stop spinning. I also was to the point where I couldn't even sit up without feeling like passing out... I was home alone and my husband was out chopping firewood when I woke up. Then while on the pot, I started shaking so badly and the spinning was horrid, I even thought about calling 911. I finally got a hold of someone who went looking for hubby, and he came home and went to the pharmacy and picked up some motion sickness meds. (I called my GI who told me to try that) I'm sure now it's my ears.... So strange because my ears never hurt yesterday. The motion sickness meds helped slightly, but I stayed in bed the ENTIRE day and as long as I was lying down, it wasn't too bad. I wasn't too nauseaus, but I didn't have ANY appetite until today... I'll go to the dr tomorrow and have them check my ears and hopefully it will be all over!!

Hope the doc is able to get you a diagnosis...or if not, to send you to an ENT.

Keep us posted.
