Well, I went to a follow up with the GI on Friday and had to tell her that as I was coming off the Rowasa, I was noticing some symptoms coming back.  It seems like even if I miss one night I have increased cramping, urgency, and some mucous/blood the next day.  She wants me to try 3 more months on the Rowasa (nightly at bedtime) and says if I continue to have symptoms when I come back off, then I have to go on Pred.  I tried to suggest a tapering approach to the enemas, but she said no because it's too much of the meslamine over too long a time period.  I guess all I can do is take the meds these next three months and see what happens.

I would like to get to a remission state long enough to have another baby, then I am willing to consider surgery after that baby is a year and a half old or so.  I just need to get through these next couple of years!  Hopefully I can do it without continually escalating meds!

I'm surprised to hear your doc say that using the enema in addition to your Lialda is too much mesalamine because my doc says just the opposite. In fact he stated that he has some patients that are on long term usage of Rowasa or Canasa as maintenance in addition to their oral meds. Unless you have adverse reactions to mesalamines??

I find it weird as well. I haven't experienced any kind of negative reactions and have been on mesalamines since February in one form or another. I am going to go with this for the next three months, but I may give some push back prior to giving in to the Pred. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this was odd!

Yeah, definately try to avoid pred as long as possible. If you have to go the steroid route, look into the steroid enemas first. But hopefully it won't come to that.
