Hello,
I am not sure that what I am taking is the right thing or not. Las Feb (08) I was in hospital (after pred. failed to put me back into remission), for IV steroids that put me back into a normal state (as normal as can be) Now, I cam experiencing no pain, solid movements once a day, but have bleeding that streaks stool and sometimes drips-I cannot say that it is a lot, but def. there in a significant amount. My doc. has put me on corticosteroid enemas once a day. They do not seem to be do anything, and on top of that I have this constant swelling feeling. I take Lialda 2 pills twice daily (max amount) I am only 22 and have had moderate, left sided UC for about a year and a half. I am trying to finish my BA and then go to optometry school next year. I am scared to go back to the hospital and wonder if I am beginning to flare again. Do any of you have the same symptoms. I am hesitant to call my doctor b/c I know he wants to try cyclosporin and I am not sure I want to take that path just yet. Any feedback would be awesome.

Greg

Have you tried Rowasa? It is a 5 ASA medication. It is in liquid enema form and works very quickly. It will stop my bleeding in a day or two. Talk to your doc. about it.

If your symptoms are one solid bm daily and with a bit of blood, I'd say your flare is rectally only and that's a good thing your doc put you on the rectal meds.

When did you start them?

Do you use the enemas at night or during the day?

I would call the doc and ask if you could try the Rowasa (or Salofalk if you're not in the US) instead of the cortenema if you think they're not working for you.

The other option would be to add 5ASA suppositores to the regimen you're on at this time.

*Heather* Status..Asacol 6 (3 twice daily); enemas every 4th night
~diagnosed January 1989 UC (proctosigmoiditis)
~Bentylol (dicyclomine) 20mg as needed
~vitamins/minerals/supplements
~Probiotics....(Natural Factors Protec 2 or 3  +   1 or 2 Primadophilus Reuteri Pearls @ bedtime
~multi-digestive enzymes as needed
~Ranitidine,Pariet (reflux);  Effexor XR 75mg(depression);  Pulmicort/Airomir (asthma)
~URSO for PSC (or PBC) 500mg X 2 daily (LFTs back to NORMAL!!)
My doc's logic.. "TREAT (FROM)BOTH ENDS"  worth it !!!

thanks for the advice. I have not tried any enema of any sort yet, I am going to call me doctor today. I miss spoke when I said corticosteroid enemas, I meant suppositories. I use 1 25 mg anucort suppository at night (done it for about 3 weeks and everything has stayed about the same) So I hear Rowasa is maybe a good things to try? I will bring it up with my GI. I love being a prisoner to my own body, LOL. Have to have a little sense of humor with it huh? Thanks for the info, any other advice will be well taken
