Hello I was wondering if anybody remembers where their c reactive protein has been when they have flaired. Five weeks ago mine was in the normal range (0 - .8) then two weeks ago it was around 2 and know it is 6.294. Also when have they put you in the hospital? I am just nervous. I have been going 15-20 times a day and I am slightly losing my mind. I am sick of being sick. My potassium and sodium are right on the cusp of the normal range but she didn't seem concerned. She upped my dose of Remicade and gave it to me a week and a half early. I hope it kicks in....

I never had mine checked while flaring in the past, but I know it had to be elevated, as it is indicative of an inflammatory state. And unfortunately I was very inflammed. It makes sense yours is elevated now, while you are flaring. Having been admitted early on in my disease process a number of times, after a while, I hated the hospital and would tough it out. I hope your remicade gives you some relief, let us know.

Sorry I do not know the levels.  I hope some others can chime in and share their experience.

I wondered about drinking the haldi.  Is there a recipe for that?  Pre bottled?

There are different scales to measure CRP levels depending if you are in UK (Europe) or USA. The European scale has a normal range 0-10. The american scale (measured in different units) has a normal range 0-.8. On that scale

.8 - 1.6 is mild inflammation

1.6 - 3.2 is moderate inflammation

3.2 upwards is severe inflammation

Remember CRP measures inflammation throughtout the whole body - not just the colon.

It is an extremly sensitive measure. If you are anemic or suffer from other medical conditions the CRP result is meaningless. The sed rate will then need to be used to give a clearer measurement of inflammation.

Thanks damo - I wish I understood what all of the levels on my blood report means. Do you know how high yours has been?

On the European scale in a serverly moderate flare I got to 80. In american units I think that is just under 7. But at high levels of inflammation you are probably also severly anemic so you can't really use the CRP to give a good level of how badly your UC is. The sed rate is probably more accurate.

The nurse who treated me said she knew of cases where the CRP went to 300 in European units!

CRP and sed rate are an initial indicator that maybe something is wrong in your body (not just your colon). Once they rise significantly then you should really be subjected to other tests to see what is going on!
