When taking Cipro do your GI doctors recommend taking Flagyl along with it?  Was wondering because me GI doctor does.

Your doctor recommends Cipro + Flagyl for UC proctitis? That sounds like bad advice to me. Why doesn't he/she have you try mesalamine enemas and/or suppositories 1st? / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC; currently on 3 generic Colazal daily for maintenance of remission)

I want to say I took one for a week and then the other for a week for a month or something like that.

Seems like a lot of antibiotic.  You must have a persistent bacterial infection.  My doc put me at Flagyl at first.  I told him a could not take many antibiotics and ended up stopping in 4 days as everything (especially bleeding) got worse.  As for Cipro - that gives me constant diarrhea.  However, I would talk with doc and find out why he prescribed all this.  Sure he has a good reason - I hope.  Tests showed I did not have C-diff so he took me off the antibiotics.

I must apologize.  I am not taking Cipro for UC.  I have a bad sinus infection.  My family doctor prescribed Cipro.  My GI doctor wants me to take Flagyl while on the Cipro.  Something about it keeps the good bacteria in the intestine.  This is my third day taking it.  My UC is in remission and I am having normal bowel movements, so far.

Sounds unusual to me but good to know because all antibiotics I have taken give me diarrhea.  If I need one - I take zithermax for my sinus infections.  Hope I don't get one anytime soon.  AND when I take it I eat yogurt and take the probiotics twice a day instead of once.
