We came home late last night. She feels pretty good from surgery. Unfortunately her butt has to get used to being used again and it burns. Probably because there is still very little food going in. She has wipes and cream. And she is going alot again (like UC without the cramps). It's sad to see her hurting again especially after such an easy couple of days of recovery.

She doesn't have much of an appetite so we are trying to get her to eat small amounts more often. Hopefully within a few days she will get a handle on this burning. It was sort of expected but hard to take now that it is here.

But it is wonderful to be home!

Brava, Bratcat! Butt burning + bm frequency have been cited in many posts here from new pouchers. I'm wondering if the doctors or hospital gave you any instruction re consumption of yogurt or probiotics. The active cultures seem to be important for pouch health/optimum function from what experienced pouchers write to HW. Having mastered the yucky ostomy in short order, I imagine that Bratcat will adapt to this new situation before long. Probably she'll be near her old self in time for Thanksgiving. Best wishes to a very courageous H.S. senior & her devoted mom!!!!! / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Aww that's so good to hear she's back home! I'm sorry to hear about the butt burn but hopefully that will be short lived.

Sorry she's having the butt burn, but so glad the surgery is over for her. I'm so happy she's on her way to being a healthy teen again!
