Maclean's November 4th 2008, has an article on the hockey player, Fernando Pisani, who suffers from UC..he is taking Biologic medicine and had had amazing results. If possible it is worth finding it on line to read it.. I have it on my email, but I don't know how to post it here, as a friend sent it via a scanner.

Anyone know what this drug is? They keep referring to it as a "biological drug". M'ooookay...what's it called and how can we ask our GI about it??

Most likely Remicade based on the every 8 week schedule they mention.

Yes, sounds like the biologic drug is remicade.

Dx:  UC Proctitis 2006
Meds:  None so far. Garlic works to ease flares. My GI laughed when I told him and said it was just coincidence.
Started Meds:  Apr 9 08 500mg 5ASA (salofalk) to ease flare, tapering, stopped.
Diet:  Regular fresh garlic, Biobest yogurt daily, Omega 3 supplements, very limited junk food, carbs and processed food, low fat diet.  Lots of fresh fruit and veggies (limited potatoes).
 Added: tumeric and probiotics.
