You are probably tapering too fast, the regimen you describe is kind of unusual. You need to get out this flare before you taper any more, but ask your doc.
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering.
Asacol/5ASA 6x400 mg maintenance for 20+ years; use prednisone & Rowasa for flares.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed gluten, other intolerances; started diet without gluten, soy, dairy, tomato etc. Replete probiotic first, then Forte pills.
Achieved remission for the first time in many, many years!? Seemed so, but colonoscopy Oct. 6 proved not so, heavy inflammation in ascending colon & will be using Rowasa again. But I AM better.

For my tapering, i went from 40mg's, two weeks later my gi took me down to 30mg's. another two weeks later down to 20mg's. On tues I will go down to 15, the following tues down to 10mg's, then 5mg's and I go in to see my gi again. A 20mg decline every week seems a little drastic...

I did have a flare-up a few weeks ago, once I started tapering off the pred, but the pain wasn't as bad as it has been in the past. I've gained about 15 -17 lbs since I got on pred in oct and my face is HUGE!! When can I expect to see the weight come off and my face return to normal? lol The hens at work are beginning to talk....lol
FINALLY Diagnosed in October 2008 after 2.5 yrs of BS doctors who don't know what they're talking about...

Currently on 20mg of Prednisone, tapered from 40mg

When I tappered off pred the most I tappered down was 10mg at a time.  I think going down from 60 to 40 might be causing you to flare up again.  It took me longer to tapper that I or my GI wanted and I had to at times go back up 5mg for a week or so then tapper back down...it sucks because you want to get off the pred but it is better to slowly tapper than to go into a full flare again and have to go back up to 60mg...I suggest calling your GI and asking if you need to prolong your tapper by going down 5 or 10mg instead of 20mg at a time.  I would tell your doctor your symptoms too...

It took about two months for my all my swelling to go down after stopping the pred but it started to improve within about two weeks...
Dx 2006 right after the birth of my daughter
Lialda varies 2-4 pills a day
Canasa on and off as needed

Just tappered off pred

i think the pred. is messing with my stomach, since being on it for so long. i'm on nexium but my doc was treating me for a stomach ulcer and i think the pred. is causing the bloating and indigestion. i need to get off this stuff :(

I believe you that the prednisone is causing your indigestion. For me I get severe indigestion every time that I am on the stuff. When ever I am on the high dose I have to double my PPI (acid reducer) dose, so I would talk to your doctor about changing something. As for you still flaring I would call your doctor before you go any lower on the prednisone. I am not sure what is normal, but I have a really good doctor and he will call me back to give advice. I hope you feel better soon, and good luck!

Are you taking it with food? Probably, since it's usually clearly directed on the label.
Vitamins upset my stomach, maybe you could lay off your vitamin for a while?
While the prednisone has side effects, I find the effects of a flare are worse!
I hope you fell better soon.
