If you're asking me, pb4, I totally, entirely, %100 think the immune system is the cause of UC. The sole cause, I might add! The triggers??? No idea. I don't doubt that in general, "our" diets play a role, the higher concentration of processed foods & additives, etc. Maybe the higher concentration of chemicals in our day-to-day living environment play a role in triggering it, I don't know. But bottom line is, one's immune system is attacking one's body, there is no doubt about
that. So to say it's not caused by the immune system is just wacked! That's why I think the "cure", if there even is one, is pretty far off. The only glimmer of hope I see is the recent stem cell advances, like growing healthy intestinal cells. But even then, who's to say you wouldn't undergo that type of treatment, only to have your immune system attack the new healthy tissue? I have had numerous auto-immune disorders, on & off my whole life, & this is just one in a long line. I'm sorta hoping the UC goes the way of the rest- I've been afflicted with different immune system disorders over the past couple decades, & have been on meds for them, then they just sort of fade away. No medical treament needed anymore, no symptoms, etc. I know the actual disorders are lurking somewhere in my body, but as long as they don't crop up, who cares? Also, I don't think there will ever be a cure for UC, per se, but perhaps a way to re-regulate the immune system, which could affect all auto-immune disorders. I guess when I say I don't care what the exact cause is, I mean that I just don't see why it matters- we have UC, there is currently no cure, & no one knows the cause. The common belief is that it's auto-immune- I agree! Stupid immune systems......
