It doesn't happen a lot, just every so often.  I will sometimes be doing something or even resting when a feeling comes over me where I feel extremely faint, slightly nauseas, the world takes on a weird unreal view, I get hot and shaky.  It only lasts maybe no more then 15 minutes.  Oh and when I start to get the slightly nauseas feeling, my face gets sort of cold and numb like when you know you are going to throw up (but I don't).  Has anyone else ever have this happen to them and if so, what do you suppose the cause of it could be??

Sherry,  I used to get those same feelings when I was a child.  My mom used to call them "weak spells".  It makes you feel awful.  I remember getting them mostly at night.  I haven't gotten that feeling in years and have no idea what caused it.  The doctor passed it off as "nerves".  Do you have high blood pressure or diabetes?

No, no high blood pressure nor diabetes. I do however have low blood pressure - do you suppose that can be the culprit?

I have started waking up like that some mornings. I try to go ahead with my morning schedule and eat breakfast and begin to feel stronger, less nausea, and stop shaking. Sometimes I will also get like that when a BM comes on me suddenly. I don't know why it's happening to me either. I thought it started when I had a kidney stone last month and was better after the stone was passed. I woke up like that this morning and my urine is "coke" color again this past week, so I was thinking it was related to possibly another stone. Interesting other people have had that though.

Sherry, are you still on 6MP? I know you memtioned your GI didn't think it was working for you anymore. I thought of that as a possibility for my weak/nausea/shaky spells. I am waiting on Prometheus results from last week. He said we may have to adjust my 6MP dose.

I have had that happen to me occasionally and it usually is low blood pressure. I keep water with me at all times, because it helps to get my blood pressure up and get rid of the dizziness and the shakes.

Thanks :) I know I have a tendancy of not drinking enough water so maybe that is it.

Mommy pooh (love the screen name btw!), yes I am still on 6mp and even though I am not metabolizing the 6mp properly, it is still keeping me out of severe flares and the bleeding down to almost nil. I can't go any higher because I have had some blood work come back just below the toxic level and I can't go any lower or it just won't do anything. I thought maybe these spells could be from the 6mp too but it happens so infrequently that I don't know if that is the cause of them or not.

What you're describing could also be from anxiety - that feeling of unreality is quite common with anxiety, so is dizziness and the shakes.  You don't have to be feeling stressed to have anxiety symptoms, they are often the strongest when resting - maybe because that's when you have time to notice them.

Anxiety seems to be pretty common for UC sufferers so it wouldn't be unreasonable to try doing some deep breathing or mediation exercises and see if that helps!

I had this problem when I was flaring badly over the summer. I also have low BP, but I thought it was b/c of the flare itself.

It could also possibly be hypoglycemia. Try eating some crackers or other carb when you feel it, see if that helps.

I get low blood sugar on occassion and feel just like that. My doc said get something w/ sugar to get it in you quick but pair it with a protein to make it last longer. I like a few bites from a balance bar.

i used to have that feelign alot before i got sick, then suprisingly the whole time i had UC it neve happened.
Then today, for the first time in years it happened again. I was really hot, and i got all funny feeling like that. I took my coat off and went outside and got some drink and i felt much better after that.
That's what i used to do when i would get those spells, i would cool off and drink something and feel better. Never figured out what it was.

Up your liquid intake and see if that changes anything, if not then go to the doc, it could be anything, low iron, low potassium or an array of things mentioned above....dehydration sounds like the most obvious since you already mentioned you probably do get in enough fluids in a day...this can also happen if you're not eating enough or getting enough nutrients via foods.

Wow, I just had this happen last Tuesday. I've had a sinus infection and wasn't feeling good to begin with. We were at my daughter's gymnastics class and I felt okay, kinda crappy but not too bad. We blew off a playdate because I wasn't feeling up to it. On the way home, I had the same kind of spell. I got super hot, it was 30 degrees out and I still had to turn the air on in my car. I kept thinking I was going to have to pull over to puke. It was the longest car ride of my life. When we got home, I laid down for about an hour and when I got up, I was fine. I am horrible about drinking water so maybe that was the issue for me too???

Sherry, what you're describing sounds like it could be a silent migraine, where you get symptoms of migraine (nausea, faintness, feeling unreal) without the actual headache pain. The cold/numb face part especially makes me wonder. Of course, low blood pressure, dehydration, and low blood sugar also could be culprits, but the infrequency also makes me think it could be migraine. I have had a couple of silent migraines (usually mine don't keep quiet at all!), and they're weird.

Anxiety or panic attacks frequently happen "out of the blue".   Stress causes the body's nerves and regulatory systems to over-react, the more stressed you are the more erratically it can behave.  Since body takes more than four times as long to recover from the negative effects of stress as it does to incur them, the body can produce symptoms of stress long after the stressor has passed.

I would still check with a doctor in case it is a medical concern, but also try to keep your stress to a minimum and take time to relax and de-stress!

There is a list of anxiety symptoms and explanations here - http://www.anxietycentre.com/anxiety-symptoms.shtml

Good luck!

I get that when my blood sugar drops; a little bite of food helps. I too keep some sort of protein bar etc with me to get rid of that feeling when it it hits.

Wow, you sure have a whole array of diagnoses here..lol.  Someone said low blood sugar or low blood pressure.  Well, I have high blood pressure now, but when I got those weak spells as a child, I had LOW blood pressure.  Best to be checked out anyway.  Do you have a blood pressure cuff at home?  I do, but then because of my high bp I am supposed to monitor it twice a day.

That happened to me once before when I was in Abercrombie & Fitch with my daughter last year. If no one knows what it's like in their stores, it's very dark and closed in. I believe I had an anxiety/panic attack because I could NOT get out of there fast enough. Once I was out of the store, I felt much better. But the same "attack" happened then like it did the other day except in the store I didn't get nauseas, just the shakes, hotness, unreal feeling. So maybe it CAN be anxiety though I don't feel like I have anything to be anxious about - lol oh wait, there is the whole thing with my daughter who her herself is suffering from anxiety or a possible health issue! So maybe that was it because yesterday I had to take my daughter to urgent care because her primary was on vacation and I had to pick her upfrom school for having a major dizzy spell. So maybe that got to me.
