I wonder whether anyone can offer me any advice on ememas.  I started with a mild flare up at the end of August brought on I think by a stomach upset and I still have not been able to sort out completely which is really getting me down.
I have been using Pentasa enemas every evening which seems to settle things down for a while but if I so much as miss one dose the following day I am sore and bleeding again.  It is almost like it is just settling things but not actually making me better.  I mentioned to my Consulstant about perhaps trying steriod enemas instead but he didn't seem to think this would have any more benefit than what I was using.
What does anyone think on this?  I have made a GP appointment for next week and I am tempted to ask to prescribe some for me just to give it a try.
Meds: 8 x Asacol, Pentasa enema at night, probiotics

Sometimes using a steroid enema can tame a flare easier and faster then a 5-ASA enema. If you are unable to get your flare under control using a 5-ASA then the steroid can be used so yeah, I would question your consultants reasoning on this.

I've only ever had luck with steroid enemas, nothing eles has ever worked for me, definitely give it a try, just keep in mind that it varies from person to person (and even from flare to flare) on how quickly it will kick in, and be sure to stay on rectal meds until symptoms subside before tapering off, often I think people taper off too quickly...nice thing about steroid enemas is that very little gets into the blood stream therefore there are virtually no side effects.

Good luck and feel better soon!

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)
